Maruti Suzuki’s hatchbacks sold the most in July 2024, with three of its models making the top five best-selling models. The new-generation Swift remained the best-selling model in the category with sales of 16,854 units. The WagonR, Baleno and Alto ranked second, third and fourth with sales of 16,191, 9,309 and 7,353 units respectively. Maruti Suzuki was also the best-selling car brand in July 2024. Its sales were 1.37 lakh units, down from 1.52 lakh units in July 2023, a decrease of 9.6%. Let’s take a closer look at the five best-selling hatchbacks in July this year.
Maruti Suzuki Swift
Despite a year-on-year decline of 5.82%, the new Swift emerged as the best-selling model in the segment. It is powered by the Z-series 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine which outputs 80bhp at 5,700rpm and 112Nm at 4,300rpm. Both 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic gearboxes are available. The Maruti Suzuki hatchback is available in five variants (LXi, VXi, VXi (O) ZXi and ZXi+) and is priced between Rs 6.49 lakh and Rs 9.64 lakh (all ex-showroom). It competes with the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Tata Tiago in the market.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R
WagonR jumped from the third position in sales in June 2024 to the second position last month. It has grown by 24.83% year-on-year. WagonR offers two engine options: a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine (67 hp/90 Nm) and a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine (82 hp/113 Nm). A CNG option is also available. The car is built on Maruti Suzuki’s Heartect platform. It is priced between Rs 5.55 lakh and Rs 7.33 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Maruti Suzuki Baleno
Baleno fell to the third position from the second position in June 2024. In July 2023, the hatchback sold 16,725 units, higher than in July this year, a year-on-year decline of 44.34%. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is equipped with a 1.2-litre dual injection petrol engine (89bhp/113Nm) that can be mated to a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic gearbox. It is also available with a CNG powertrain. The Maruti Suzuki car is priced between Rs 6.66 lakh and Rs 9.83 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Maruti Suzuki Alto
Alto was the fourth best-selling hatchback in July, with a year-on-year growth of 3.58%. It is powered by a 1-litre Dualjet petrol engine that produces 66 hp and 89 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. A CNG option is also available. The hatchback is priced between Rs 3.99 lakh and Rs 5.96 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It is available in four core variants: Std, LXi, VXi and VXi Plus.

Tata Tiago/EV
Available in petrol, electric and CNG powertrain options, the Tata Tiago ranked fifth among the top five best-selling hatchbacks in July 2024. Last month, the model saw a year-on-year decline of 36.93% with 5,665 units sold, compared to 8,982 units sold in July 2023. The combustion engine hatchback is priced at Rs 5.65 lakh and the electric model is priced at Rs 7.99 lakh. Both are starting and ex-showroom prices.
