The sub-Rs 15 lakh SUV segment is a popular market in the Indian automotive industry, catering to every taste and lifestyle. Models in this price range offer a perfect combination of modern features, practicality and aesthetics at an affordable price. Tata Punch Press
The Tata Punch is a compact SUV known for its unique design, practicality, economy and multiple powertrain options. The ICE model of the Punch starts at Rs 6.12 lakh, while the electric version starts at Rs 9.99 lakh. In comparison, the CNG model starts at Rs 7.23 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.

The SUV is powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine called the Revotron, which outputs 86.63bhp at 6,000rpm and 115Nm of torque at 3,250rpm. It is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic gearbox. In CNG mode, the engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox only, outputting 72bhp of power and 103Nm of torque. On the other hand, the electric Punch comes with two battery packs (25kWh and 35kWh).
Maruti Suzuki Brezza
The Brezza is the second model on the list, with sales of 19,190 units in August, up over 32% year-on-year. The model is equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol engine with 101.5 hp and 137 Nm of torque, mated to a five-speed manual or six-speed torque converter automatic transmission. A CNG powertrain is also available with performance figures of 86.7 hp and 121.5 Nm, respectively. The Brezza is available in four core variants: LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi+. The SUV starts at Rs 8.34 lakh (ex-showroom).
Tata Curv
In the automotive industry, the recently launched Tata Curvv has created a buzz with its notable features and coupe-like looks. This SUV Coupe is available in two versions: ICE and electric. The ICE model retails at Rs 10 lakh, while the electric model retails at Rs 17.49 lakh. These are the starting and ex-showroom prices. In the compact SUV sales in August, the Curvv was the fifth best-selling car with sales of 3,455 units.
Mechanically, the EV version has two battery options (45kWh and 55kWh) and a liquid-cooled permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMS). On the other hand, the ICE model has three engine options (1.5-liter diesel, 1.2-liter direct injection turbocharged petrol, 1.2-liter turbo petrol).
Hyundai Creta
In August 2024, the Hyundai Creta is one of the best-selling compact SUVs in India. With its bold looks, various engine options and well-appointed interiors, the model is a popular choice among first-time buyers and those looking to upgrade to a new car. It is available with three engine options: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine, a 1.5-litre diesel engine and a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. Transmission options include 6-speed MT, 6-speed AT, iMT, CVT (iVT) and 7-speed DCT. The Creta SUV is available in seven main variants (E, EX, S, S (O), SX, SX Tech and SX (O)) and is priced from Rs 11 lakh (starting, ex-showroom).

Mahindra Scorpio/N
In the SUV market, the Scorpio is a solid choice with great convenience, performance and features. It appeals to those who seek a rugged, reliable, large-capacity SUV that can handle both city driving and off-roading. In August, the Scorpio was the fourth best-selling SUV with 13,787 units sold. The Scorpio-N comes with two engine options (2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel), but the Scorpio Classic only has one 2.2-litre diesel engine. The former is priced at Rs 13.85 lakh, while the latter is priced at Rs 13.62 lakh. Both are quoted as starting and ex-showroom prices.
