Maruti Suzuki continues to be the best-selling brand in India during the festive season of October 2024, owing to the success of models like Alto, Swift, Ertiga and Baleno. The automaker’s long-term dominance is aided by its extensive service network and reasonable prices. Hyundai Motor and Mahindra & Mahindra also saw huge demand for their goods during the festive season, delivering 55,568 and 54,504 units respectively. Let’s take a closer look at the top five car sales in October.

Maruti Suzuki
The Swift maker retained its top spot as India’s best-selling car brand with sales of 1.59 lakh units in October. This represents a year-on-year decrease of 5% and a month-on-month increase of 10%. The company has just launched the much-anticipated new Dzire in India with a starting price of Rs 6.79 lakh. The sedan is the first Maruti Suzuki model to receive a perfect five-star safety rating from Global NCAP.

Hyundai sold 55,568 units last month compared with 55,128 units sold in October 2023, a slight increase of 0.8%. However, on a monthly basis, the company gained 8.7%.

The Korean automaker plans to launch the Ioniq 9 in November 2024. The styling of this SUV is similar to the Seven Concept shown at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show. It has a full-width LED light bar with “parametric pixels”, square wheel arches, conventional doors with B-pillars, pop-up door handles and large D-pillars. Mechanically, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 is expected to use the same e-GMP architecture as the Kia EV9 sold abroad and include 76.1kWh and 99.8kWh battery packs.
Mahindra
Mahindra sold 54,504 vehicles, making it the third best-selling car brand during the October festive season. It grew 24.7% year-on-year and about 6.7% month-on-month, indicating huge demand for its products. According to industry sources, the waiting period for the Mahindra Thar Roxx in India is 10 to 15 months, depending on the model chosen. The 5-door SUV is available in six core variants (MX1, MX3, AX3 L, MX5, AX5 L and AX7) priced between Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 22.49 lakh. Both are ex-showroom figures.
Tata Motors
Despite a year-on-year decline of 0.4%, Tata Motors remained fourth in the list of best-selling car brands last month. Its sales were 48,133 units, compared with 48,343 units last year. The company shipped 41,065 units in September, a month-on-month increase of 17.2%. The four-door electric hatchback Tiago EV crossed the 50,000-unit sales milestone in India last month. The electric car is available with two battery options: 19.2kWh (medium range) and 24kWh (long range). The former has a range of 250 kilometers and the latter has a range of 315 kilometers.

Toyota sold 28,138 vehicles in October, a year-on-year increase of 37%. During the same period last year, the company sold 20,542 units. The Japanese automaker’s sales increased 18.2% month-on-month.

To celebrate the holidays, Toyota launched special editions of numerous models last month, including the Hyryder, Glanza and Rumion. These models have special accessories and other upgrades.
