- The SUV is designed specifically for the Chinese market and will be produced in partnership with Guangzhou Automobile Group.
- Powering the entry-level model is a 50 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack.
- Even though this SUV is cheap, it comes with driver assistance systems.
Toyota has started selling the bZ3X in China, and like many other pure electric cars in the Far East, it’s definitely good value for money. The electric SUV is available in three styles, with prices starting at just 100,000 yuan (approximately $13,800) and going up to 200,000 yuan (approximately $27,500). It is built jointly with Toyota GAC, and the first deliveries are scheduled for March next year.
The entry-level model is called 430 Air+ and is equipped with a 50.03 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack. That’s quite a small amount of power for an SUV of this size, but Toyota says it can travel 430 kilometers (267 miles) on a single charge. However, this is under the CLTC cycle, as we all know Quite generous. The battery powers an electric motor rated at 221 horsepower (165 kilowatts).

According to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the bZ3X is 4,600 mm (181.1 inches) long, 1,875 mm (73.8 inches) wide, 1,645 mm (64.7 inches) high, and has a wheelbase of 2,765 mm (108.8 inches). It weighs 1,835 kg (4,045 lbs). In addition to the 430 Air+, the SUV will be available in 520 Pro+ and 620 Max variants, although limited details are known about these variants. If the naming strategy is any indication, they may have ranges of 520 km (323 miles) and 620 km (385 miles) respectively, which may require a larger battery pack.
Toyota has been working on the bZ3X for quite some time, previewing it alongside the smaller bZ3C crossover earlier this year. The bZ3X’s cabin appears to be well-equipped, with standard features including a 14.6-inch infotainment display and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. It also comes with a two-spoke steering wheel, wireless phone charger and split center console. An 11-speaker Yamaha sound system comes standard.
Perhaps most impressive is all the safety technology Toyota has packed into its new electric vehicles. It is equipped with at least 11 high-definition cameras, three millimeter-wave radars, a lidar and 12 ultrasonic sensors to support a large number of driver assistance systems.
