Toyota Corolla recalled due to steering loss

Toyota is recalling 8,800 Corolla and Corolla Hybrid vehicles to replace the steering intermediate shaft.

— The Toyota Corolla recall affects about 8,800 2023-2024 Corolla and Corolla Hybrid vehicles because they may lose all steering function.

The government has not released details of the Corolla and Corolla Hybrid recall, but the automaker said there may be a crack in the steering countershaft.

Because the steering shaft allows the steering wheel to control the direction of the front wheels, the driver may lose steering control if the crack expands and causes the steering shaft to separate.

The recalled Toyota Corolla and Corolla Hybrid vehicles were produced from July 2023 to September 2023.

About 800 Corollas are being recalled in Canada.

Toyota dealers will replace the Corolla steering countershaft once owners are contacted in January 2025.

Toyota Corolla owners can call 800-331-4331.
