Toyota hybrid cable lawsuit settled in Canada

Toyota Canada class action settlement alleges corrosion of cables rendered vehicles unusable.

— A Canadian Toyota Hybrid Cable Litigation Settlement has been reached for customers who owned certain Lexus Hybrid and Toyota Hybrid vehicles in Canada.

The original Toyota Hybrid Cable class action lawsuit only involved the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and was limited to the province of Quebec.

But the corrosion hybrid cable lawsuit settlement includes the following vehicles across Canada.

  • 2021-2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime

Toyota/Lexus Hybrid Cable Corrosion Extended Warranty (W65/W66)

The lawsuit settlement includes an extended warranty that applies to the high-voltage wires that provide power to the rear-wheel motor generators.

The Toyota Hybrid Cable Settlement Agreement refers to these wires as “high voltage floor wiring harness” and “rear traction motor generator cables.”

Corrosion of the hybrid floor harness and rear traction motor cables are covered by Toyota’s 3-year/60,000km warranty and Lexus’ 4-year/80,000km warranty.

Under Cable Corrosion Solutions, the warranty is extended for repairs related to excessive corrosion on the rear motor-generator harness connections. This corrosion is often worse when road salt is used in cold weather and may prevent the vehicle from starting, or the radio may be affected by static electricity.

Toyota and Lexus corrosion cable warranties have now been extended to 8 years from the date of first use or 160,000 km, whichever comes first.

The settlement says the vehicles will be repaired once Toyota confirms excessive cable corrosion and vehicle mileage/time details.

Toyota Hybrid Cable Corrosion Solution (Reimbursement)

The Toyota hybrid cable settlement says customers may be reimbursed if they paid for cable repairs before extended warranties. Even if the repair was performed by another dealer or aftermarket shop, “reasonable expenses” may be reimbursed.

Lexus and Toyota customers must provide proof of cost and payment for hybrid cable repairs.

Canadian Lexus or Toyota Hybrid customers can also reimburse rental costs at $45 per day (Toyota) or $85 per day (Lexus) for up to a 60-day rental period (if parts are unavailable) goods condition.

Canadian lawyers representing the plaintiffs will receive $700,000.

If you have questions about Toyota hybrid cable solutions, owners should call 888-869-6828. Lexus customers can call 800-265-3987.
