Toyota has unveiled the Land Cruiser Rox SUV concept, a bold redesign of its iconic 4×4 with a striking open-top two-door design. This unique concept is derived from the Land Cruiser 250, which is basically the same model as the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and is expected to be launched in India. This model combines rugged off-road capability with a modern sense of adventure. Designed by Toyota’s Calty Design Research team, the Rox stands out with its bespoke features, including a sliding soft-top roof, pickup-style rear bed and functional mid-door. Its unique aesthetic is complemented by advanced features such as Molle panel storage, a three-bar roof rack and integrated auxiliary lights. With a vibrant spring green finish and rugged suspension setup, the Land Cruiser Rox is Toyota’s vision of the future of off-road vehicles, blending performance, style and practicality in one eye-catching package.

Toyota Land Cruiser Rox SUV concept: styling cues
According to the automaker, ROX stands for “Recreation Open eXperience,” a concept designed by its Calty Design Research team. The ROX was originally a 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser, but has undergone significant changes, with more than half of the vehicle redesigned to create a radically different design. The ROX concept has a unique silhouette highlighted by a sliding soft-top roof and a rear section that is repurposed as a pickup truck bed. The upper part of the vehicle has been completely revamped, with the A-pillars designed to resemble the frame of a trestle and the sloping rear pillars equipped with Molle panels, ideal for securing outdoor gear.
Other notable features include custom gray roof bars with three-bar racks, seven forward-facing auxiliary lights mounted on the roof for increased trail visibility, and a functional mid-door that allows easy access to the bed and long storage items. The exterior is finished in spring green, a nod to classic Land Cruiser colors, while a custom oil drum sits next to the rear spare wheel holder. The vehicle also features heavy-duty steel bumpers with red tow hooks, reinforced brush guards, a winch and lower opening skeletal doors mounted atop solid rock rails.

Toyota Land Cruiser Rox SUV concept: mechanical details
Under the hood, the concept SUV remains unchanged, with the same 2.4-liter petrol engine and powerful hybrid system. On the suspension front, the company upgraded the unit, lifting it four inches and widening the track width by eight inches with forged aluminum control arms at each end. To support the wider body and accommodate larger off-road tires wrapped around 18-inch one-piece machined billet wheels, the vehicle features wide, trapezoidal fender flares.
Although the Rox Concept is a unique vehicle built specifically for the 2024 SEMA show, it is expected to influence Toyota’s future off-road design strategy.
