Toyota recalls 34,000 vehicles in Gulf states

Gulf State Oil said it had put incorrect weight stickers on the recalled vehicles.

— Gulf States Toyota is recalling nearly 34,000 vehicles equipped with Gulf States accessories.

GST said the recall was necessary because the carrying capacity modification labels may show inaccurate increased weight values.

Until the fix was made, the vehicles, sold by Gulf States, violated federal safety standards.

Gulf States applies the wrong label, but the added weight shown on the label may be higher or lower than the total weight of the accessories installed on the vehicle.

However, federal regulations require that the reduction in carrying capacity be accurate to within one percent of the increase in weight.

Drivers may follow current labels and end up unknowingly overloading their vehicles and increasing their risk of a crash.

The recall letter to owners is expected to be mailed on September 16, 2024, but owners do not need to go to the dealership as GST will mail the new label to the owner.

Gulf state Toyota owners with questions should call 800-444-1074 and reference recall number 24R2.
