Hyundai to launch the much-anticipated Creta EV, marking its entry into the mass-market electric vehicle segment

Whether it is launching new models or updating existing models, Kia has been quite active in the Indian market since its launch in 2019 and is preparing to launch another new SUV in the near future. Likewise, South Korean giant Hyundai is preparing to launch a new all-electric SUV. Let’s take a look at two new Hyundai and Kia cars to be launched in India.

1. Kia Silos

The Syros is set to make its official debut on December 19 and will sit above the Sonet in the brand’s lineup. Kia recently confirmed the Syros name for its upcoming SUV, and test mules of the compact SUV have been spotted several times.

The company also shared a teaser of the Syros, showing off the silhouette and confirming that it will come with a panoramic sunroof. Judging from the first teaser, the four-wheeler sports a tall design similar to the latest models on the market, namely the new-generation Fiesta and EV9.

The SUV will adopt a boxy design language with an upright stance and feature vertically stacked front LED daytime running lights, wide window lines, functional roof rails and recessed door handles.

The upcoming Kia Syros will be available with both combustion and electric powertrains, but an electric version will be launched at a later stage. According to the latest media reports, the Syros will be powered by the familiar 1.0-liter tGDi petrol engine and 1.5-liter CRDi diesel engine.

2. Hyundai Creta EV

Hyundai plans to launch the Creta EV in the Indian market early next year at the 2025 Auto Expo. Hyundai’s first mass-market electric car in the country will be based on the latest facelift of the Creta. The design is familiar to a conventionally powered SUV, although there are some EV-specific touches such as a closed front grille, EV badges inside and out, and aero-efficient alloy wheels.

In terms of powertrain, it will use a 45-kilowatt-hour battery pack with a rated power output of 138 horsepower and a peak torque of 255 Nm. The setup is completely different from the base-spec version of the latest-generation Kona EV sold in international markets. The Creta EV will feature a single-motor front-wheel drive unit in India.

Once launched, it will compete with the likes of Mahindra BE 6e, Tata Curvv EV, MG Windsor EV, MG ZS EV and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.
