Tyreek Hill Goes Viral In Mclaren Parking Incident, Leads To Miami Police Officer Suspension
  • Hill was pulled from his McLaren 720S during what was supposed to be a normal traffic stop.
  • Police believe the NFL player was driving 60 mph in a 40 mph zone.
  • A 27-year-old veteran of the police force was put on administrative duty.

Authorities in Miami, Florida, have placed a police officer on administrative duty to investigate the arrest of NFL star Tyreek Hill on the eve of Sunday’s game between the Miami Dolphins and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The dramatic incident, which was captured on body camera footage, took place near Hard Rock Stadium. Police said they pulled over Hill’s McLaren 720S after they estimated he was going 60 mph in a 40 mph zone. The video initially shows the Miami Dolphins wide receiver lowering his window and handing his license to an officer, but within seconds, the tone between Hill and the officer starts to get a little aggressive.

A few seconds later, Hill rolled up the window again. The officer knocked on the window twice, asking him to roll it down, and Hill eventually complied and rolled the window down a few inches. The officer quickly ordered the NFL star out of the car, and another officer rushed over, opened the door, and pulled the NFL star out of the British supercar. Hill sat in the car and appeared to be trying to call his agent, Drew Rosenhaus.

The officers then tackled the 30-year-old man to the ground and handcuffed him. Shortly after, an officer asked Hill to sit on the side of the road, but he hesitated, explaining that he had recently undergone knee surgery. Before he could finish, he was pulled to the ground. The officers then pulled over and opened fire on the occupants of a Rolls-Royce Cullinan, which appeared to be Hill’s vehicle. An officer asked to see the Rolls-Royce owner’s driver’s license.

While both parties undoubtedly made the situation worse than it otherwise would have been, the police should have been working to de-escalate the situation, not the other way around. After the arrest, Maryland State Police Superintendent Stephanie V. Daniel said an investigation into the arrest had been launched.

“One of the officers involved has been placed on administrative duty during the investigation,” she said. “I am committed to being transparent and accountable to the community regarding any situation involving my officers.”

The New York Post identified the officer who was placed on administrative leave as Danny Torres, a 27-year veteran of the police force. Hill was cited for careless driving and fined $179. He was also fined $129 for a seatbelt violation.
