In an effort to expand the brand’s product portfolio, the upcoming Revolt AW1 or RV1 will compete with electric motorcycles from Tork Motors, Oben, Pure EV and Ola
Now that electric scooters are gaining popularity, many companies are shifting their focus to electric motorcycles to grab a head start. Revolt electric motorcycle brand is all set to launch a new budget motorcycle on September 17. The motorcycle is called AW1 and the specifications and features are yet to be leaked ahead of the launch. Let’s see what it is all about.
The upcoming Revolt AW1
Ola Electric recently launched its Roadster series of motorcycles. This has brought hope to the emerging electric motorcycle market. However, Revolt is one of the oldest players in the electric motorcycle space in India, if not the oldest. Currently, Revolt offers the RV400 and RV400 BRZ electric motorcycles, and the AW1 will be the third model.
AW1 stands for “Are We One”. A leaked internal presentation of Revolt revealed that the upcoming motorcycle will be called AW1. But based on Rovolt’s current product line and naming strategy, we think it will be called RV1. As the teaser on the company’s website suggests, Are We One.
What did it get?
The leaked company internal presentation shows a street-style motorcycle silhouette with neo-retro styling. We see a round headlight with round LED daytime running lights, futuristic side body panels similar to the RV400, and a commuter-style subframe and rear. There is also a long seat, which should appeal to the target audience.
Compared to the RV400, the upcoming Revolt AW1 or RV1 comes with RSU telescopic front fork, dual shock absorbers, and the main highlight is that the AW1 or RV1 has ditched the fancy belt drive in favor of a cheaper chain drive. Since chain drive requires frequent maintenance, a center stand is provided as part of the accessories.
Other accessories include sturdier armrests (with brackets), leg guards and headlight visors. The AW1 will come in two variants – V1 and V2. With a battery capacity of 2.2 kWh, the V1 can travel more than 100 kilometers on a single charge, while the V2 has a 3.24 kWh capacity and can travel 150 kilometers. There may be only one 2 kW (2.682 bhp) mid-mounted electric motor with reverse mode.
what happens?
Currently, the most affordable model of Revolt is the RV400 BRZ, which is priced at Rs 1,02,250 (ex-showroom price). Based on the leaked presentation, we can see the expected features and specifications of the Revolt AW1 or RV1, which is a lower-spec vehicle compared to the RV400 currently on sale. The Revolt AW1 is equipped with a combination lock that integrates the ignition and handle locks and comes with an integrated charger storage.
The Revolt is likely to be priced well below Rs 1 lakh. It could be around Rs 80,000, or even lower than the Ola Roadster X which is priced at Rs 75,000 (ex-showroom). In terms of price, the experience offered by the Revolt is slightly lower than what the company offers with the RV400.
