Upgraded Jawa 42 launched in India, priced at Rs 1.73 lakh: Check

Jawa has updated its 42-model neo-classic motorcycle range in India. For 2024, the Jawa 42 will come with a slip-assist clutch, a redesigned engine, and some cosmetic changes. The motorcycle is available in three configurations – Spoke Wheels with Single-channel ABS; Spoke Wheels with Dual-channel ABS; and Alloy Wheels with Dual-channel ABS, with a total of 14 colours to choose from. The Jawa 42 range starts with the standard Vega White (Single-channel ABS, Spoke Wheels) variant, priced at Rs 1.73 lakh (ex-showroom), making the motorcycle more affordable than before. At the top end is the top-spec model, which comes with alloy wheels and dual-channel ABS, priced at Rs 1.98 lakh (ex-showroom).

As part of the mechanical upgrades, the upgraded Jawa 42 uses a new J-Panther single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with a displacement of 294.72cc. The engine of the 2024 Jawa 42 produces 27bhp and 26.84Nm of peak torque when mated to a six-speed gearbox and slip-assist clutch.

Jawa says it has redesigned the engine internals, including the crankshaft, to improve NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) levels. Engine mapping has also been revised to provide better low-end performance. Jawa has also adopted gear-based throttle mapping for smoother shifting, while redesigned counterbalancer weights and a new hub-mounted counterbalancer gear are said to reduce vibration. Other modifications include a heavier magneto, larger throttle body and intake duct, and a CP4 cylinder head.

Apart from the mechanical changes, the 2024 Jawa 42 also offers better ground clearance and a retuned suspension setup, and lastly, Jawa has tweaked the mounting points of the twin shock absorbers. Braking duties are performed by disc brakes at both ends.

Updated Jawa 42: visual changes

Visually, the updated Jawa 42 remains almost the same, except for a new seat for improved riding comfort. The seat height is 788 mm. Other elements, including the round headlight and teardrop-shaped fuel tank, have also been carried over.

Updated Jawa 42: Features

In terms of features, the top model of the 2024 Jawa 42 comes with a digital instrument cluster, while the base model gets an analog LCD instrument cluster. The motorcycle can be equipped with spoke wheels or alloy wheels.

The 2024 Jawa 42 will be available at authorized dealers. As mentioned above, buyers can choose from 14 colors, six of which are new colors – Vega White, Voyager Red, Asteroid Grey, Odyssey Black, Nebula Blue and Celestial Copper Matte.
