Volkswagen Talon 7-seater and new Skoda Kodiaq SUV may be launched in India next year
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVIPL) plans to launch two 7-seater SUVs in the domestic market in the next few months. It is reported that Skoda will launch the new Kodiaq in the Indian market, and the Volkswagen Tayron will also arrive in my country at about the same time. We expect these two 7-seater SUVs to be unveiled at the Bharat Mobile Global Expo in January 2025 and go on sale after the event.
The India-spec 2025 Skoda Kodiaq has received the highest 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, with a score of 89% for adult protection and 83% for child protection. It will come with a host of advanced safety features, including 10 airbags, lane assist, autonomous emergency braking and driver fatigue detection. The 2025 Kodiaq 7-seater SUV will be sold in CKD (Completely Knocked Down) format in India.
While interacting with the media, Skoda Auto India Brand Director Petr Janeba revealed that the 2025 Kodiaq will be launched next summer and the test car has already arrived in India. The 7-seater SUV was spotted several times during its trial run on Indian roads. Under the hood, it is likely to feature a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive (AWD) system. The 2025 Skoda Kodiaq will compete with the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and Volkswagen Tiguan.

Volkswagen’s 7-seat SUV Talon will hit the roads in India around March 2025. Sources suggest that the Talon will replace the Tiguan in Volkswagen’s product portfolio in India. The SUV made its world premiere at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year. The new Tayron is longer, roomier and larger than the Tiguan, while offering roomy comfort and technology features such as a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, three-zone automatic climate control, ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof and a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
While the global-spec model comes with petrol, diesel, PHEV and MHEV powertrain setups, we expect the Indian variant to come with only a petrol engine. A mild hybrid version may be launched at a later date. There is no manual gearbox option as all variants come with a DCT gearbox as standard. We are not sure yet whether the Volkswagen Talon will come with four-wheel drive as standard in India.

The Volkswagen Tayron 7-seater SUV based on the MQB Evo architecture is likely to be priced around Rs 35-40 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Similar to the Skoda Kodiaq, it will be retailed through the CKD route. The Tayron will compete closely with the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and Ford Endeavor.
