Volkswagen Golf and Atlas recalled over backup cameras

Around 98,000 infotainment systems require software updates.

After shifting into reverse gear, the rearview camera image may be delayed or disabled.

“Various software bugs may cause the rear view image to be delayed or black, or the system to not boot at all.”

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration contacted Volkswagen about rearview camera issues on the 2022 Volkswagen Golf in August 2023. Owners of the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas have also complained about various rearview camera image issues.

When the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration contacted Volkswagen about the backup camera issue on its Golf vehicles, Volkswagen was investigating the issue.

Engineers did not find any issues with the camera, but there were problems with the infotainment system software, and there were also 500 warranty claims for the rear-view camera.

More than 13,500 vehicles are being recalled in Canada.

The Volkswagen backup camera recall letter is expected to be mailed on August 23, 2024, and dealers will update the infotainment system software.
