The new Volkswagen Talon SUV has been unveiled in the European market and will make its public debut at the 2024 Paris Motor Show. Globally, the Tayron will replace the Tiguan AllSpace, offering a roomier interior and advanced technology. This new Volkswagen SUV is 260 mm longer than the new Tiguan, with a wheelbase that is 111 mm longer, with an overall length of 4,770 mm and a wheelbase of 2,791 mm. The Tayron’s larger cabin accommodates an extra row of seats and provides an additional 198 liters of luggage space.
Globally, the Talon SUV will be available with four engine options: petrol, mild hybrid petrol, petrol plug-in hybrid and diesel. Detailed specifications have yet to be released, but the automaker has confirmed that the entry-level eTSI mild hybrid will produce 148 horsepower. The plug-in hybrid version will be available in two different power outputs – 201 hp and 268 hp. The unit includes a 19.7kWh battery and an electric motor, allowing it to run in pure electric mode for up to 100 kilometers.
The 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine is also available in two states of tune: 148bhp and 190bhp. The former will come with a front-wheel drive system, while the latter will come with an all-wheel drive system. The SUV lineup will be available with 6-speed and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions, as well as all-wheel drive (AWD) systems. The plug-in hybrid version will not be available in seven-seat configuration as the battery is placed under the boot floor. The interior layout of the Volkswagen Talon is similar to that of the Tiguan, including the dashboard design, decorative inserts and fabric colors. It comes with a 12.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 10.15-inch digital instrument panel, 15.0-inch head-up display (HUD), gear selector and digital dials located on the steering column. The entry-level model comes with features like three-zone automatic climate control, digital instrument cluster, 700W Harman-Kardon audio system, panoramic sunroof, power front seats with ventilation and massage functions, 10-color ambient lighting, and more.
In terms of safety, the new Volkswagen 7-seater SUV comes with 9 airbags, ADAS suite, rearview camera and hands-free parking. Key design elements include projector headlights with optional matrix LED units, a front bumper with a large single air vent, a familiar front grille, blackout roof and D-pillars, a floating roof and LED-connected taillights.
As of now, there is no official news about its arrival in India. However, media reports claim that the Volkswagen Tayron 7-seater SUV will enter India through the CKD route in 2025. It will compete with rivals like Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian.
