Volkswagen Tayron: Tiguan Allspace replacement leaked

This is the next generation Volkswagen Tiguan AllspaceA new document from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) reveals what may be called Volkswagen Tayron In markets such as Australia.

Images of the new SUV have appeared in a Chinese database entry, where it will be badged as the Tayron L.

Despite the different name, the Tayron L basically looks like a stretched version of the new-generation Tiguan.

There are subtle styling differences in terms of bumper detailing and rear badging placement – the Tayron L lettering sits directly below the rear light bar, rather than on the lower tailgate as on the new Tiguan – but this can largely be attributed to regional differences, as the Tayron L will be built in China for Chinese customers.

However, it is understood that the Tayron L will be very similar to the global Tayron, which will serve as a three-row companion model to the latest Tiguan, much like the existing Tiguan Allspace.

It will also form the basis for the US-market Tiguan, which, as per the current generation, is also based on a stretched version.

We haven’t seen any pictures of the interior yet, but just like the exterior, expect it to be very closely related to the new Tiguan, with perhaps some subtle changes to differentiate the two SUV brands.

A larger touchscreen running next-generation infotainment software and a new digital instrument cluster highlight the changes to the Tiguan’s interior, while the overall design has also been overhauled with new details such as configurable ambient interior lighting with a dashboard insert.

The Tayron will also ride on the newer MQB evo platform like the new Tiguan, bringing more advanced technology than the old MQB-based Tiguan Allspace, such as a higher level of electrification.

This could include 48V mild-hybrid technology and the potential for new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) systems with a range of around 100km.

Volkswagen Group is expected to launch more powerful driver assistance technologies.

Additionally, the Tayron is expected to be larger than its predecessor in most dimensions, which will free up more interior space for passengers and their luggage. Depending on the market, up to three rows of seats will be available.

Last November, Volkswagen Group confirmed that the Tayron name would replace the Tiguan Allspace in markets such as Europe and Australia, adopting the nameplate for the Chinese-market mid-size SUV produced by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture.

It is understood that the global version of the 2025 Volkswagen Tayron will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October this year, and production will begin in late 2024 or early in the new year.

The new SUV is expected to be available in Australia in the second half of 2025.

Previous reports have suggested that the new Tayron will be produced in Germany, while the current Tiguan Allspace is assembled at Volkswagen Group’s Puebla plant in Mexico.

More details on the new Volkswagen Tayron will be announced later this year. Automotive Expert Stay up to date.
