Volkswagen Virtus and Taigun launch new models

Volkswagen Virtus gets GT Line and GT Plus Sport variants, while Taigun gets new mid-spec Highline Plus variant, updating existing variant line-up

To keep things fresh, Volkswagen is rejigging the variant line-up of Virtus sedan and Taigun SUV by launching new variants. For Virtus, it’s the much-awaited GT Line and GT Plus Sport variants priced at Prices start at Rs 14.08 Lakh and Rs 17.84 Lakh respectively (ex-showroom, India). The updates are a bit tame for the Taigun, but not worth scoffing at.

Starting with the Virtus in GT Line variant, it is designed to bring the sporty GT experience to a more affordable price point. The main highlight is that the sedan’s lights, front grille, 16-inch alloy wheels, wing mirrors, door handles and “Virtus” lettering on the rear have been blackened. You can also see “GT Line” badges on the front doors and tailgate, as well as a black lip spoiler. The interior features an all-black theme, with a contrasting red theme for the eight-inch digital driver display and ambient lighting, while aluminum pedals enhance the sporty feel.

Key features include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities, automatic climate control, keyless entry, sunroof, auto-dimming interior mirrors and rain-sensing wipers. This model is limited to a 115bhp 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine, with a choice of six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox.

As for the GT Plus Sport model, it continues the all-black theme of the GT Line, but adds red GT badges on the grille, front fenders, and tailgate, and sports aerodynamic kits on the front, sides, and rear. , red brake calipers and two-tone paint options. Inside, there are red stitching on the black leatherette seats and red inserts on the steering wheel. This variant is limited to the 150bhp 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine, with six-speed manual gearbox and seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DCT) options.

For the Volkswagen Taigun, Virtus has also added a new Highline Plus variant, which is limited to the 115bhp 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine, with manual and automatic gearbox options. Key features include an eight-inch digital driver display, auto-dimming IRVM, keyless entry, electric sunroof, automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers. Apart from this, the Taigun GT Line variant now comes with a sunroof, eight-inch digital driver display, push-button start-stop, aluminum pedals, automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers, among others. Topline variants of the Virtus and Taigun now also come standard with amplifiers and subwoofers.

The Volkswagen Virtus continues to compete with the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and its cousin Skoda Slavia, while the Taigun’s mid-size segment includes models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq and Tata Curvv. SUV space.
