Volkswagen has officially teased its new compact sedan for the global markets, internally codenamed A0 SUV. However, if this car makes its way to our market, it will compete with the likes of the Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon and the Hyundai Venue. Read on to know more about Volkswagen’s compact SUV.
Volkswagen A0 Compact SUV: Key highlights
The upcoming Ao compact SUV will be built on the MQB-A0 platform, which also underpins a number of globally sold models such as the Polo hatchback, Nivus SUV and T-Cross. It is identical to the MQB-A0-IN architecture, which is highly localised and can accommodate a wide range of body shapes and wheelbases.

With greater economies of scale, the platform helps improve productivity and speed up the production of different products. It features a transverse engine setup, slightly tilted forward, with the same distance between the pedals and the center of the front wheels for all models. This configuration, in addition to the front end alignment, also provides ample cabin space.
It is worth noting that the MQB-A0-IN architecture underpins the Volkswagen Taigun, Virtus, Skoda Kushaq and Slavia in India. It will also underpin the upcoming Skoda Kylaq.
In terms of design, the compact SUV is likely to feature a slim black grille, raised bumpers, body-coloured door handles and ORVMs, dark-finished fog lamp assemblies, black roof rails, coupe-style roofline, and LED daytime running lights connected by a chrome strip. At the rear, there is likely to be a connected LED tail-lamp unit.

Volkswagen has not revealed any details about the powertrain. But industry reports suggest the car will be powered by the same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine as found in the Volkswagen Virtus, Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and Slavia. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a torque converter automatic.
