The successor to the S90 is coming soon and it will have a lot in common with the EX90
- Volvo’s ES90 will be a pure electric sedan that will replace the S90 with advanced technology.
- It will likely share its powertrain and platform with the EX90 and is expected to feature dual-motor AWD.
- The ES90 is expected to debut in March 2025 and may be equipped with a 111 kWh battery pack.
Volvo’s 90/90 Day turned into a 90/90/90 event as the company revealed the upcoming ES90 at the end of its EX90 and XC90 reveal. It was a bit surprising, but the company has taken a “one more thing” approach lately.
While the automaker didn’t reveal anything about the car other than it will go on sale in March 2025, they showed its silhouette. The model appears to be an evolution of the S90, but it may feature a roof-mounted lidar sensor like the EX90.

Other details are hard to make out, but we can see a strong shoulder line and a familiar cabin. They connect to new taillights and a trunk with an integrated spoiler.
Volvo is keeping its mouth shut on this, but previous reports suggest the model will ride on the SPA2 platform that the EX90 is based on. The two models will reportedly share a 111 kWh battery pack, so the connection to the latter is clearly deep. There’s also a chance the two cars will share powertrains, and if that’s the case, we can expect dual-motor all-wheel drive systems with outputs of 402 hp (300 kW / 408 PS) and 510 hp (380 kW / 517 PS), respectively.
The ES90 is rumored to be 196.5 inches (4,990 mm) long, 76.6 inches (1,945 mm) wide, 60.9 inches (1,547 mm) tall, and have a wheelbase of 122.1 inches (3,102 mm). If those numbers are accurate, the model would be 3.9 inches (100 mm) shorter than the S90, but would have a 1.6-inch (41 mm) longer track.
The ES90 is expected to be manufactured in China, which means it could face steep tariffs in several markets, including North America and Europe. We may learn more in the coming weeks, though.
