The EX30, Volvo’s smallest electric car, received a 5-star safety rating in the latest round of Euro NCAP crash testing. While the Swedish carmaker has yet to make an official announcement, the EX30 is expected to hit our market next year. In the adult occupant protection category, it scored 35.3 points, or 88%. In the front deformable barrier test, the EX30 provided minimal protection for front-seat occupants’ thighs, but other body areas were generally well protected, ranging from good to adequate. Full-width frontal hard-obstacle testing demonstrated strong protection for front-seat passengers. However, the level of chest protection for rear seat passengers was limited as the dummy showed high compression levels during the evaluation.

The EX30 performed strongly in the side movement obstacle test and had good overall protection, but performed poorly in chest protection in the side pole impact evaluation. The SUV’s design was praised for its structural integrity, with the front center airbag playing a key role in preventing head injuries by preventing the dummy’s head from making contact.
The EX30 received high ratings for whiplash protection, indicating that even if the car is submerged in water, occupants can exit the vehicle by opening the doors and windows.
Volvo EX30: Child Occupant Protection and More Explained
The compact electric SUV scored 42 points, or 85 percent, for child occupant protection. Occupants aged six and ten were well protected in frontal and side crash tests. However, points were lost due to the lack of a child presence detection system.
When it comes to protecting vulnerable road users, the car scored just 79%. Its score dropped because some automatic safety features are not activated by default. Except for the area near and on the A-pillars, the EX30 offers good and adequate protection in the event of a collision with a cyclist or pedestrian.

While the automatic emergency braking system performs well in most situations, its performance is degraded because rear pedestrian protection is not enabled by default. The EX30’s on-board electronic safety systems received a score of 80%, with almost all systems operating normally.
