- Volvo has reversed course again and revealed that the EX30 will hit U.S. dealers later this year.
- The EX30 Twin Motor Performance will be available first, priced at $44,900.
- The dual-motor model has 422 horsepower and an EPA range of 253 miles.
Volvo will launch the EX30 in the summer of 2023 and was originally scheduled to go on sale in the United States this year. However, things are clearly in trouble due to higher tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.
While Volvo didn’t come out to explain the obvious situation, the automaker cited “changes in the global automotive landscape.” The company added that models destined for the United States will now be produced in Ghent, Belgium, instead of Zhangjiakou, China.

That would allow the automaker to avoid steep tariffs, but it initially planned to delay U.S. launch until 2025. However, the EX30 is arriving earlier than expected, as Volvo has announced that deliveries will begin later this year.
Customers who pre-order the model will be invited to configure their electric crossover, with Volvo saying “deliveries of selected examples” will begin in the coming weeks. Specific details are scarce, but the automaker’s priority is the pricey EX30 Twin Motor Performance, which starts at $44,900.
The company said it did so “in response to strong consumer demand.” The single-motor version is expected to be launched in 2025, with a starting price of $34,950, which is worth paying attention to.
As a refresher, the EX30 Twin Motor Performance features a 69 kWh battery pack that powers a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 422 hp (315 kW / 428 PS) and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) of torque. This allows the crossover to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.4 seconds and has an EPA range of 253 miles (407 km). When the charge is low, the 153 kW DC fast charging function can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 26 minutes.
The EX30 single-motor range-extended version is similar, but uses a rear-mounted motor that produces 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and 253 lb-ft (343 Nm) of torque. This results in a slower 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) acceleration time of 5.1 seconds, but a longer range.
