  • Volvo recalled 7,483 plug-in hybrid vehicles in the United States due to fire risks.

  • The dealer will replace the battery module when needed and install new monitoring software.

Volvo is recalling thousands of plug-in hybrids in the United States because they may short-circuit when parked and fully charged. This poses a serious fire risk, and it can occur at night when the vehicle is parked in the garage.

This is a frightening idea and advises owners not to charge their vehicles before recalling them. It affects 7,483 cars, crossovers and vans, including plug-in hybrid versions of the 2020-2021 S90, 2022 V90 and 2020-2022 S60, V60, XC60, XC60 and XC90.

Volvo first realized the problem after Volvo reported the “hotline incident” on February 6, 2024. This sparked an investigation that ended earlier this month. The company is clearly aware of two incidents related to the disease, although it did not result in any injury, crash or death.

The owner notified that the plan was to go out in May and directed the customer to take their vehicles to a nearby dealership. Once there, the technician will conduct an inspection to identify cell deviations in the battery module. If you find any, the battery module will be replaced for free. All vehicles will also be equipped with new software for monitoring battery modules.
