Want a Ferrari 458 cover? Alibaba has one for $28,000

People have been building kit cars that mimic supercars. Most often, they are relatively cheap reproductions rather than convincing reproductions. They didn’t have a proper chassis, a proper engine, or even a real body. Now, an Alibaba seller is empowering at least one person to fix that last problem. They are selling the entire body shell of a Ferrari 458.

The listing is provided by Yongping Yongqiang Auto Parts Department (yes, that’s the full name) in Baiyun District, Guangzhou, and the description is interesting, to say the least. The seller assures potential buyers that “GUARANTEE OF AUTHENTICITY: This is a genuine, high-quality OEM original used body shell for the Ferrari F458, ensuring a perfect fit and optimal performance.”

The description goes on to mention, “The body shell has been designed to fit a variety of Ferrari models, including the 458 Italia, Speciale and Spider.” What drives me crazy is that I’m not sure anyone can convert this to true Spider specs since it has a roof – unless of course you’re skilled with the Sawzall and remain shockingly optimistic.

Regardless, car covers include everything you need to make any replica look like the real thing. From everything we can see in the description and photos, the case looks good. The hood, bumpers, bodywork, fenders, and rear decklid appear to be intact with no major flaws. Even the doors and glass are in good condition.

What’s the asking price for this Ferrari exotic? The seller wants $27,700 for the case, but keep in mind that doesn’t include shipping. Some countries may have import laws that prevent them from being delivered on time, or in the worst case scenario, your valuable purchase will be put on hold indefinitely.

Out of curiosity, we compared this price with Ferrari parts dealers. Scuderia Car Parts (a name mentioned on the Ferrari forum) lists all four fenders (front and rear) for $10,950 delivered. If nothing else, that makes the $27,700 case seem like a reasonable price for the sheer size of what you’re paying for.

Not just Ferrari

Interestingly, this is not the only such product on Alibaba. The website and seller also offer countless other supercar parts. This includes the entire frame of the Lamborghini Gallardo for a very reasonable price of $2,500. Interestingly, the site claims buyers must order at least two pieces to meet the minimum order requirement. The same goes for Ferrari. In the case of the Gallardo, the frame has been sawed into two pieces, but we’re not sure if that’s the seller’s explanation.
