It’s not often that legitimate rally cars come up for auction, but that’s what we have here. Not only was this 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STI used in multiple races, but it was also driven by two of America’s most famous rally drivers, Ken Block and Travis Pastrana.

This very special WRX STI was built by Vermont SportsCar and used by Block and Pastrana in the production World Rally Championship from 2007 to 2008. It competed in six races during the campaign and was later driven by Mark Fox and David Milla in Rally America. Although it started out as a regular road-going WRX STI, it has been transformed into a pure animal after significant modifications.

As in the regular WRX STI, power is provided by a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and while horsepower and torque figures for this particular rally car are unknown, it’s inevitably significantly more than the standard 300 hp and 300 lb-ft. The controller is all MoTec ECU, supporting a variety of different power maps. Vermont SportCar also designed a custom exhaust for the STI, along with an FIA-spec fuel system with dual fuel pumps, Samco radiator hoses and anti-lag.

Rally cars take a lot of abuse, so Ohlins shock absorbers with external reservoirs are found at all four corners. Subbie also features aftermarket adjustable control arms, new sway bar end links, upgraded brakes, and rides on 15-inch Speedline Corse wheels shod with Pirelli Scorpion tires.
The interior has been stripped down and there’s nothing unsuitable for rallying. There is a full roll cage, Sparco Circuit II halo seats, Momo steering wheel, fire suppression system, intercom, custom switch panel and fire extinguisher. A check of the odometer showed the car had been driven 13,958 miles (approximately 22,400 kilometers).
