Mahindra’s new electric SUV “Be 6e” has recently encountered major troubles due to its name, and a lawsuit was filed against Mahindra for plagiarizing the “6e” name.
Not long ago, Mahindra launched two unexpected electric SUVs – Be 6e and Xev 9e, which boomed the Indian electric car market. As always, Mahindra fans are going crazy about these SUVs, even though they are electric vehicles. Everything seemed to be going smoothly according to Mahindra’s plan, but this time, there was a curse. Indigo suddenly filed a lawsuit against Mahindra, accusing it of copying its registered trademark “6e”. Here are all the details.
What’s behind the name “Be 6e”?
Therefore, the name “6e” is a registered trademark of Indigo Airlines (owned by InterGlobe Aviation Limited). Furthermore, it’s registered in a different segment than Mahindra’s ‘Be 6e’, which makes Indigo’s proceedings all the more interesting here.
Mahindra said it has registered the ‘BE 6e’ trademark in a different class (Class 12) from the ‘6e’ name used by IndiGo. Also, Mahindra is branded as ‘BE 6e’ and not just ‘6E’. The two categories are vastly different, which makes Indigo suing Mahindra for theft truly ridiculous.
Both companies are fighting the issue in court, and the case could take some time. But until then, Mahindra won’t stop selling the Be 6e. Pending a final decision, the electric SUV will be sold as “Be 6” instead of “Be 6e”.
