After laying a solid foundation for consumer electronics, Xiaomi is now making bold progress in the field of electric vehicles (EVs). The brand’s first electric car was the SU7 sedan, with four versions. The Xiaomi SU7 is already on the list of best-selling electric vehicles in China, requiring a selection of variants to be waiting for up to 12 months. The future prospects look great, as the Xiaomi SU7 is rated as the safest car by C-NCAP. Let’s check the details.

Xiaomi SU7 C-NCAP crash test results

As of now, there are four variants of Xiaomi SU7 – SU7, SU7 Pro, Su7 Max and Su7 Ultra. For C-NCAP crash tests, the SU7 MAX variant was selected. The security kit for the Xiaomi SU7 Max variant includes 7 frames, a 360° security system and a range of ADAS features.

In addition, the sedan uses a lightweight but sturdy steel alloy armored chassis. The SU7 has two formats of autonomous driving systems. While 11 HD cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors and 3 mmwave radar are common, the largest (Pilot Max) system has an additional HESAI AT128 lidar. As revealed in recent videos, in certain cases, the LiDAR system can perform better than the camera-based ADAS system.

In the C-NCAP crash test, Xiaomi SU7 received a 5-star rating. The overall safety score was 93.5%, 8.7% higher than the average score in the C-NCAP results. While the 5-star safety rating itself is commendable, the Xiaomi SU7 scored the highest score in all the cars tested by the C-NCAP under the 2024 test protocol. It essentially makes the Xiaomi SU7 the safest car in China. It is indeed a major achievement, especially considering the doubts expressed by some critics about the safety of the sedan.
