The 2025 BMW X5 25th Anniversary Edition pays tribute to the 1999 E53, with a limited edition of 250 units worldwide

BMW is marking the 25th anniversary of the first-generation X5 (codenamed E53) with a new limited edition of the current model. Limited to just 250 units in Canada, the X5 Edition 25 Jahre features nostalgic colors and unique specifications. It’s a sister model to the US-market X5 Silver Anniversary Edition, but has its own unique color scheme and wheel design.

The Edition 25 Jahre is based on the 2025 X5 xDrive40i and combines elements from the xLine and M Sport models. It features black exterior trim from the M Sport package (including window surrounds, side gills, roof rails and grille), while the bumpers and rocker panels with aluminum trim come from the xLine. Another highlight is the 21-inch Orbit Grey wheels with a Y-spoke design, reminiscent of the original 18-inch wheels.

In addition to the cool mix of X5s, the highlight of this Canada-exclusive special edition is the two available shades from the extensive palette of BMW Individual Manufaktur. Oxford Green II Metallic and Le Mans Blue Metallic were both debut colors for the original 1999 BMW X5, and they look fantastic on their modern descendants.

Owners who opt for Le Mans Blue Metallic will find Silverstone Sensafin interior trim with Poplar Woodgrain Anthracite Brown Open Pore trim. Conversely, Oxford Green II Metallic features Coffee Brown Sensafin interior trim with Fine Line Stripe Brown High Gloss trim.

Like the Silver Anniversary Edition of the SUV, the 25 Jahre is equipped with the xOffroad package, which adds four driving modes for difficult terrain (xSnow, xSand, xGravel and xRocks). The package also includes dual-axle air suspension for variable ground clearance, a mechanical rear differential lock, additional underbody protection and a dedicated xOffroad View screen on the infotainment display.

Standard equipment is quite generous, as one would expect from an anniversary edition. It includes heated seats, armrests and steering wheel, a Harman-Kardon sound system, Park Assist Professional ADAS and the best version of the BMW Curved Display with head-up display and augmented reality navigation.

The BMW X5 Edition 25 Jahre will be available at Canadian dealers in the fourth quarter of this year. The limited edition has a suggested retail price of 102,500 Canadian dollars (equivalent to 75,327 US dollars at current exchange rates), which is slightly cheaper than the same model in the United States. Since the first generation model was launched in 1999, BMW has produced nearly 3 million X5s at the Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.
