The toughest Skoda Kodiaq ever has undergone extensive modifications to the passenger compartment, bulletproof glass, run-flat tires, etc.

  • Skoda has introduced the bulletproof armored Kodiaq that complies with the PAS 300 standard.
  • This SUV is equipped with bulletproof glass, reinforced steel, and emergency strobe lights.
  • Designed with safety in mind, it can withstand handguns, grenades and high-explosive rounds.

Skoda has unveiled an armoured version of the first-generation Kodiaq, developed by Skoda UK in collaboration with security specialist UTAC Special Vehicles, and featuring a number of improvements.

Interestingly, this armored special edition is based on the facelifted first-generation Kodiaq, not the new generation that was introduced last year. Exterior changes are limited to the grille, bumpers, and strobe lights on the tailgate, as the goal is to be as similar to the production model as possible.

Inside, the 8-inch infotainment touchscreen has been transformed into a “communication center” with GPS and special controls for the emergency lights and alarm system. What’s more, the Skoda Kodiaq Armored Edition features bulletproof glass and an “extensive transformation” of the passenger compartment with the addition of steel armor.

Skoda engineers added upgraded suspension and brakes, ensuring the now heavier SUV retains the standard version’s driving performance and agility. All four wheels are equipped with a tire retention system that prevents the tire from coming off the rim even when fully deflated.

There are no changes to the engine, and customers can choose from “a range of powertrain options”, including a 4×4 version.

Skoda says the modified Kodiak can withstand bullets from “various pistols and assault rifles,” as well as blasts from “hand grenades and high-explosive shells.” It is designed to meet the PAS 300 and PAS 301 requirements of the civilian armored vehicle standards.

Certification required rigorous testing of payload, acceleration, top speed, handling and braking. The SUV withstood more than 200 rounds and demonstrated blast resistance on its sides, roof and underfloor.

Since its launch in 2018, Skoda has sold nearly 500 units of the Skoda Superb Armor, showing that there is still a market for Skoda armored cars.
