2026 Kia PV5 electric van is coming, making Vans cool again
  • Kia’s electric PV5 has been spied testing in Germany and will be launched later this year.
  • The van will be available in different cab, roof and body configurations.
  • A passenger van is also being developed to compete with the non-cargo version of the Volkswagen ID.Buzz.

Kia is definitely not backing down from electric vehicles, and the Korean automaker thinks electric vehicles are needed for more than just SUVs. These spy photos show that the company is developing the PV5 van to give the likes of the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo a hard time.

Built around Kia’s e-CCPM (Electric Complete Chassis Platform Module) architecture, the PV5 is the production LCV version of the electric van concept launched 12 months ago. Like Volkswagen’s ID.Buzz, it will be available in passenger and commercial models, but the PV5 will offer more configurations than Volkswagen’s rivals.

We don’t just mean motor and battery options, of which Kia hasn’t revealed much yet, by the way. No, we’re talking about modular body sections that allow the PV5 to be configured with low- and high-roof body styles, or even as a truck.

When Kia revealed the concept, it said that the body units are connected through mechanical couplings and electromagnetic fixed points, allowing owners to customize the PV5, but judging from these spy photos, this may not be a DIY swap, and the versatility is experienced at this time. of ordering.

Only a brief glimpse of painted metal under the roof behind the sliding door helps us distinguish this light commercial vehicle from the people-hauling minivan we saw last September, which had a glass panel in the same location. There are also simple steel wheels that replaced the alloys on previous prototypes.

Both versions feature the same dropped beltline at the front doors to improve visibility, tough black plastic wheel arches, and are wrapped in plenty of camouflage to keep most design details under wraps. But we can see the daytime running lights tracing the lines of the trunk, with the actual headlights hidden in the bumper below.

A few frames even give us a glimpse of the PV5’s interior, with one showing off large grab handles on the A-pillars and a massive rectangular touchscreen that’s much taller than the ones Kia uses on its current electric cars, including the top-spec Model EV9 SUV.

The PV5 will be launched later this year, followed by the smaller PV1 and PV7. We also hope that the off-road PV5 Kia showed off at SEMA will also go into production. Would you choose one over the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo?
