- Polestar also gave honorable mentions to two racing-inspired concept cars.
- This year’s design competition attracted more than 1,200 entrants from around the world.
No, this isn’t Polestar’s next model, but the winner of the automaker’s annual design competition in partnership with Hot Wheels. The winning design, called the Polestar TRX, is a futuristic pickup truck that will spawn a real-life 1:64 scale model of Hot Wheels.
Most people would agree that the electric Tesla Cybertruck takes pickup truck design to places we never imagined. However, the TRX pushes the boundaries even further, although it does look like a perfect fit for a Hot Wheels car. This rugged truck rides on a set of massive wheels and has plenty of ground clearance, ensuring it’s perfect for speeding around the Hot Wheels track and grabbing some serious suspension time.

The TRX’s slim body features a slim, sharp front fascia with LED daytime running lights that are reminiscent of other Polestar models. The cabin is very low, but since it was just a concept, Indian designer Shashank Shekhar didn’t need to bring it to fruition. There’s a long bed in the back, big enough to store a pair of surfboards.
“I’m happy to win,” Sheshank Shekhar said. “This will be the first design project of my career, so it means a lot to me. I never thought that one day, something I created would end up being a Hot Wheels car. It’s a great experience It’s been a great journey so far and as a young designer something like this gives you a lot of confidence.”
Polestar awarded the runner-up to the Cyber Shaker designed by Italian designer Powei Chen. It sports an eye-catching multi-color design with purple daytime running lights and an ultra-aggressive stance. The third concept car you see is a Le Mans-inspired classic car designed by Roman Moor that received an Honorable Mention.
It’s unclear whether Polestar will create a life-size one-off based on the TRX, but last year Polestar combined the three winning designs from the 2022 competition to create the Synergy concept car, which it unveiled in Munich The concept car was presented at the IAA Mobility Show in Germany.
