- BMW is recalling the 2025 X3 due to improper machining of major suspension components.
- The swivel bearing assembly or bracket is found to have an oversized hole and the strut connection may crack.
- Fortunately, only two new-for-2025 X3s are affected and will have their brackets replaced at dealers.
BMW’s all-new 2025 X3 just went on sale in the United States, but for some owners, the smug new-car feeling is about to be undermined by a letter telling them that their SUV has a dangerous problem.
var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:()}; adpushup.que.push(function() { if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){ adpushup.triggerAd(“0f7e3106 -c4d6-4db4-8135-c508879a76f8”); } else { adpushup.triggerAd(“82503191-e1d1-435a-874f-9c78a2a54a2f”);
It was discovered that the combustion engine-powered X3’s suspension rotating hub, to which all front suspension components are fixed and rotate with the wheels, was found to be poorly machined. You may also know it as a post, knuckle, carrier or other names, but the most important thing to know is that it is a critical part of the load-bearing equipment.

Technicians noticed during assembly that some of the left-side swivel hubs were incorrect and the holes in the aluminum castings where the struts went were too large. These carriers are under a lot of stress, and BMW believes that over time, failure could cause components to break and affect the SUV’s handling and controllability. In the worst case scenario, it could cause the driver to crash.
var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:()}; adpushup.que.push(function() { if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){ adpushup.triggerAd(“0f7e3106 -c4d6-4db4-8135-c508879a76f8”); } else { adpushup.triggerAd(“82503191-e1d1-435a-874f-9c78a2a54a2f”);
Thankfully, there have been no reports of this happening to any 2025 X3 owners, and when BMW checked its production records with parts supplier logs, it realized that only two cars had this unreliable bracket installed.
Unlike some automakers, which can take years to approve a fix after discovering a problem, BMW acted fairly quickly. The company discovered the fault on Nov. 7 and notified dealers of the recall on Dec. 5, but did not contact affected owners until January. These owners must send their X3 in for a complete suspension bracket replacement.
The fourth-generation X3 debuted in June this year, with standard mild hybrid power and BMW’s latest curved dashboard display. There’s no electric powertrain, though – if you want one, you’ll have to wait until next year when the iX3 arrives, which signals the arrival of BMW’s Neue Klasse platform and styling previewed by the Vision Neue Klasse X concept.
