BYD’s new Fangcheng Baoti 3 electric SUV does have

BYD’s Fangchenbao brand is adding another model to its growing lineup, and this one may be the most eye-catching of them all. It’s called Titanium 3 and was previewed earlier this year when it was simply called Bao 3. It will be sold alongside the larger Bao 5 and Bao 8 models.

Photos from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology show the small SUV has a rather rugged and gorgeous design. The front end has headlights that remind us of the current Honda Ridgeline and a black center area where the grille usually sits. However, since the 3 is fully electric, it doesn’t need a grille.

BYD designers have delved into the side of the Titanium 3, carefully designing the bulbous front and rear wheel arches that extend all the way to the front and rear doors, giving this SUV plenty of personality. A set of black fenders also stand out, and there are a few different 18- and 19-inch wheel options.

The rear may be more unique than the front. LED taillights are standard, and there’s a large storage box on the tailgate, but since it’s square, it doesn’t actually carry the spare tire and could be used to carry a charging cable or other items. Like the front bumper, the rear bumper is also made of black plastic.

Powering the new Fangchenbao will be BYD’s lithium iron phosphate blade batteries. Power will come from a 148 hp (110 kW) electric motor at the front and a 268 hp (200 kW) electric motor at the rear axle. There’s no word yet on the 3’s acceleration speed, but its top speed is 125 mph (201 km/h).

Chinese data shows that the Titanium 3 is 4,605 ​​mm (181 inches) long, 1,900 mm (74.8 inches) wide, 1,720 mm (67.7 inches) high, and has a wheelbase of 2,745 mm (108 inches). It weighs 2,170 kg (4,784 lbs) and, as mentioned, will be available with 18- and 19-inch wheels in 235/60 and 245/50 tire sizes. It also comes with the option of a large storage box on the roof to carry the drone.
