- A new Mustang Dark Horse has been stolen from Port Melbourne before delivery.
- Only 1,000 of this muscle car were earmarked for Australia, and all have been sold.
- The 463bhp V8 model is priced locally at $99,102 before on-road costs.
The new Ford Mustang Dark Horse recently made its Australian debut with a limited run of 1,000 units, all of which have now been sold. Unfortunately, the excitement surrounding this muscle car was quickly dampened for one unlucky buyer, who lost the car before he could even take delivery.

It is understood the Mustang was stolen shortly after it docked in the Port of Melbourne from the United States. The theft occurred a full two years after the original order was placed.

A Ford spokesperson confirmed to Drive that the Mustang was stolen “while in transit” and police are aware of the theft. While sales of the Black Wagon have reached 1,000 units in Australia, the carmaker said it was “working hard to find a replacement as soon as possible.”

However, the news will undoubtedly dismay shipowners, who may have to wait until the second quarter of 2025 for replacement ships to land on local shores.
The whereabouts of the stolen mustang are unknown, but it is unlikely it will remain in Australia for long. Stolen new delivery cars are often shipped overseas, where they are harder to track.
In Australia, the Dark Horse is priced at AU$99,102 before on-road costs, which equates to $63,200 at current exchange rates and is almost identical to the starting price in the US.
However, horsepower-hungry Australians won’t be able to enjoy as much power as the models sold in the US. In fact, the local dark horse model delivers 500 hp (373 kW) and 418 lb-ft (567 Nm) of torque from a 5.0-liter V8, while cars sold in Australia are capped at 462 hp (345 kW) and 405 lb-ft ( 405 lb-ft). (550 Nm).
