Autohunter Spotlight: 1961 Chevrolet Impala

Is there a better Chevrolet Since the 1960s, more than ’61? Especially in the two-door hardtop form (as Impala and Bell Air), the 1961 Chevrolet looks trimmed and light, thanks to the finless wings and plenty of glass. In addition, 1961 was the first year of Super Sport Package and Big Block 409. It’s like everything about the model year, isn’t it? For these reasons, it’s great to introduce Autohunter Poastlight today, the Seafoam Green 1961 Chevrolet Impala “Bubbletop” Sport Coupe with Tri-Carb 409 transplant, four-wheel disc brakes and more.

The vertical white accent complements the marine green tones. Other exterior features include dual chrome side mirrors, double exhaust pipes poked under the rear price, and 18-inch Ridler wheels wrapped in staggered widths – 235/40 (front) and 255/45 (rear).

The interior features green cloth and vinyl interiors that match the exterior well. The bench seats are separated at the back to promote the inlet and outlet. Other features include column-mounted automatic gear lever and factory AM radio.

The instrument includes a 120 mph speedometer, clock and meter for coolant temperature and fuel. The after-sales 8,000-RPM tachometer is installed on the left side of the column, and the auxiliary instrument for oil pressure, coolant and instrument panels are located under the instrument panel. The odometer currently reads 36,683, although the title reads mileage.

The engine currently resting here is the old-fashioned 409, although the engine has three two-barrel carburetors. This is a little interesting because the sensing system was never available for the 409, but it can be used for the 348. It’s backed by a three-speed turbo-Homer-style 400 transmission, something the original 409 has never had. Aluminum radiator helps keep this hot engine cool.

The chassis has Wilwood four-wheel electric disc brakes to stop power unimaginable in the factory. Supplements to auxiliary treatment include short coils and swing bars.
