2024 autoX Awards: The Mahindra XUV 3XO is undoubtedly a difficult car to evaluate and rate. It’s clear that Mahindra has thrown out everything but the kitchen sink to ensure that the XUV 3XO outshines the outgoing XUV300, even introducing a new naming convention that replaces the “double 0” with the edgier “X” and “O” . However, as much as I wanted to appreciate and fully embrace the 3XO, it left me wanting more.
Let’s start with the good. The most significant upgrade is in the cab. The materials are significantly improved, the workmanship feels more solid, and the practicality is also good. However, as we noted in our review, an all-white interior can be difficult to keep clean over time. One of the more controversial elements for our jurors was the design. While unique, the familiar shape with its sharply truncated rear is starting to feel a bit dated. In track testing, the direct-injection turbo engine was undeniably quick, and the stiffer chassis and suspension ensured stability even when pushed to the limit. However, a lack of steering feedback and drivetrain noise detract from the overall feel, making the car seem more twitchy than it actually is.
In terms of functionality, it takes an even bigger leap forward. The list now includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, along with a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, 7-speaker Harman Kardon music system, AdrenoX connectivity suite and wireless charging.

Mahindra has been riding high with its recent launches of new cars, setting the bar high and looking almost unstoppable at the moment given the high demand and incredible value its new generation products offer. Unfortunately, the 3XO doesn’t seem to live up to that standard. But it’s still a nice package. That said, compared to its siblings, the new Mahindra 3XO feels more like an evolution than a revolution.
