To the casual observer“Iveva Terlingua!” might conjure up images of some outlaw country record or chili cook-off. But for car enthusiasts, it may be reminiscent of Carroll Shelby’s Terlingua Racing Team. The team started out as a tongue-in-cheek group of Shelby business associates and friends who would fly to the small town in Southwest Texas for the weekend. This 2015 Shelby Terlingua prototype was originally built as a tribute to the team named after the Texas town. You can buy it at the Barrett-Jackson 2025 Scottsdale auction, which takes place January 18-26.

“Terlingua Racing Team was founded in the 1960s to bring a lot of fun to a lot of people,” said Bill Neale, designer of the Terlingua Racing Team logo. “Our team is as passionate about racing as we are about racing. From our wild weekends on the Rio Grande in South Texas, to racetracks around the world, the Terlingua Racing Team is nothing short of Show mercy.”

Shelby American offered Terlingua from 2016 to 2017, but this example is this prototype. It started out as a 2015 Shelby GT prototype and was shown at events across the United States until it was taken out of circulation and converted into the first of two Shelby Terlingua, and was launched at the 2016 Scottsdale Barrett Jackson auction debut. Since then, this marketing and development tool has appeared in Laguna Seca, Indy, and Sears Point (among others) and been immortalized in print form by members of the media. When the Terlingua package finally went on sale in 2016, it cost $65,999 more than the Mustang GT.
The Terlingua prototype is equipped with a Coyote 5.0 with over 750 horsepower, output via a Whipple supercharger and a Borla exhaust system with black tips. Other features include carbon fiber components, a six-speed manual transmission with a Barton short-throw shifter, an ACE Manufacturing dual-disc clutch, Brembo brakes, forged aluminum 20-inch Weld Racing wheels, and more. Suspension tweaks like Shelby-by-Eibach anti-roll bars and adjustable coilovers mean this car should be right at home on your favorite road course.

It’s hard not to be a fan of Carroll Shelby’s creations. This unique Shelby Terlingua prototype will be up for bidding at the upcoming Barrett-Jackson 2025 Scottsdale auction.
