GAC Group shared the first photos of the Aion UT on social media, which will be officially unveiled at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show on November 15. The Chinese hatchback is billed as a “global strategic model” and will feature an all-electric powertrain and will be similar in size to the Volkswagen ID.3.

The GAC Aion UT adopts a friendly appearance with lots of curves, a grille-less front end and stylish LED headlights. Overall, the styling language is reminiscent of the Geome Xingyuan recently launched by rival Geely brand. The interior is typical of Chinese EVs, with a large Tesla-like infotainment screen, a two-spoke steering wheel, a floating center console and colorful inserts.

According to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the GAC Aion UT has a length of 4,270 mm (168.1 inches), a width of 1,850 mm (72.8 inches), a height of 1,575 mm (62 inches), and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm (108.3 inches). . These dimensions are comparable to other electric hatchbacks, including the Volkswagen ID.3, MG4 and the global-spec BYD Dolphin.

Power comes from an electric motor producing 134 hp (100 kW/136 hp). Energy comes from a lithium iron phosphate battery pack of unknown capacity. Official sketches show the EV will have a range of more than 600 kilometers (373 miles), while the larger GAC Aion RT electric sedan has a 68.1 kWh battery and a CLTC range rating of up to 650 kilometers (400 miles).
According to China Automotive News, the GAC Aion UT will be priced under 100,000 yen ($13,800) in China, which is comparable to the starting price of the BYD Dolphin (99,800 yen/$13,800). More importantly, the GAC Aion UT will be priced lower than the MG4 (115,800 yen/$16,000 USD) and Volkswagen ID.3 (129,900 yen/$18,000 USD) in China.
GAC Aian is the best-selling sub-brand of GAC Group and focuses on pure electric vehicles. In addition to China, the brand currently operates in Thailand, Mexico, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines. The brand’s three “global strategic models” include the Aion V SUV, Aion RT sedan and Aion UT hatchback.
