Hyundai Tucson tested at Bharat NCAP – check out the results!

Bharat NCAP has been releasing crash test results of popular SUVs for the past few weeks

Hyundai Tucson has become the latest SUV to receive a 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP. Tucson is Hyundai’s flagship SUV in India. While it’s certainly not a mass-market product, it represents the best the Korean auto giant has to offer. In fact, it’s been a popular niche car among Hyundai loyalists for some time. The latest version of this SUV was launched in India in 2022. It has been doing well on the sales charts for the past two years. It boasts powerful powertrains, smooth transmissions, the latest technology and amenities, and high safety standards to attract new customers. Now, let’s look at the details of this latest case.

The Hyundai Tucson scored an impressive 30.84 points out of 32 in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category and 41 points out of 49 in the Child Occupant Protection (COP) category. Note that these are valid for both trims – Platinum and Signature. These scores are enough to earn it a full 5-star rating in both parts. The Tucson model tested weighed 1,828kg. The SUV has a host of standard safety equipment, including 6 airbags, rear ISOFIX child seat mounts, seatbelt pretensioners, seatbelt load limiters, airbag cut-off switch, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) (UN GTR No .8 / UNECE R140 / AIS-133), pedestrian protection (AIS-100) and seat belt reminder (AIS-145) as standard. Therefore, the overall score is awarded accordingly.

Adult Occupant Protection (AOP)

Let’s first take a closer look at the AOP department in detail. The SUV scored 14.84 points (out of 16 points) in the frontal deflection deformation barrier test and 16 points (out of 16 points) in the side movable deformation barrier test. The sidebar impact bar test was rated “OK.” Interestingly, driver protection for the head, neck, pelvis, knees and shins (left and right) was rated good. However, protection of the chest and abdomen is considered adequate. On the other hand, the passenger’s head, neck, chest, pelvis, knees and shins (left and right) are well protected. Only the passenger’s abdomen has adequate protection. It scored 30.84 out of 32 points, with a safety rating of 5 stars.

Child Occupant Protection (COP)

In the COP section, the SUV scored a dynamic score of 24 out of 24 points, a CRS installation score of 12 out of 12 points, and a vehicle evaluation score of 5 out of 13 points, for an overall score of 45 out of 13 points. 49 points). The mount for 18-month-olds is rear-facing, while the mount for 3-year-olds is also rear-facing. All these results in a score of 41 out of 49 points, which equates to a 5-star safety rating.
