Kia Syros compact SUV spotted testing in India again

Kia Motors is currently working on its all-new SUV, the Syros. According to reports, the car is expected to be launched soon. Ahead of its official launch, the model was spotted testing, revealing some important details about its interior. The South Korean automaker has already patented its name in the country. Some market rumours suggest that the upcoming model may be positioned between the brand’s two popular offerings, the Seltos and the Sonet. With this new model entering the highly competitive SUV segment, Indian car buyers will have a range of attractive options.

Kia Syros compact SUV: key interior details

According to the latest spy photos, the Syros will feature an all-new twin-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel. While this design has not been seen on Kia cars in India, the design seems to be influenced by other existing Kia models overseas as well as the K4 sedan that made its global debut earlier this year. It will also have an offset Kia logo. Dual displays like the one in the Seltos are also shown in the interior spy photos. The cabin is likely to get a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 10.25-inch touchscreen panel. The volume adjustment wheel is one of the physical controls and is located below the car’s touchscreen.

Kia Syros compact SUV: Design, features and powertrain options

The Syros stands out from the rest of the SUV class with its unique exterior design. We expect it to feature boxy styling that gives the vehicle a utilitarian look. Previous spy shots have revealed that the Syros will feature vertically placed headlamps with figure-7 bi-function LED daytime running lights, roof rails, signature tiger nose grille, and full LED lighting. Among other updates, it is expected to feature diamond-cut alloy wheels, heated and ventilated front seats, drive and towing modes, leatherette upholstery, panoramic sunroof, climate control system, and a Bose sound system.

The Kia Syros will be powered by petrol engines. It is expected to be offered with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated (NA) engine and a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. However, it is not clear whether the brand will also offer a diesel engine option for the upcoming SUV. All Kia products in India have petrol and diesel engine options. It seems that rivals such as the Tata Curvv will compete with the Kia Syros.

Kia Syros compact SUV: India launch and expected prices

The petrol version of the Syros will debut by the end of this year and go on sale early next year. It is expected to be priced slightly higher than the Sonet, which starts at Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). The manufacturer plans to launch its electric vehicle by mid-2025. Both the combustion engine and the electric vehicle versions will use the same platform. Moreover, Kia may launch a hybrid version of this SUV later.
