Ola returned on August 15 with the usual slew of surprises, including the launch of its in-house manufactured lithium battery, called the ‘Bharat Cell’, which will be used in its electric vehicles by the first quarter of fiscal 2026. The innovative 4680 Bharat Cell, which has over 70 patents, is claimed to have five times higher energy density, 1.5 times faster charging and 10% more range than the 2170 cells currently used in the company’s scooters. It marks a new chapter in India’s ‘Atmanirbharta’ initiative to minimise its reliance on imports.
Apart from being used in Ola’s fleet of electric vehicles, these cutting-edge batteries can also be used for grid and residential energy storage. Their low cobalt content and high energy density improve performance and price. Notably, these batteries will be manufactured at Ola’s Gigafactory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. Apart from the battery cells, Ola also showcased MoveOS 5, the new Gen-3 platform and its Roadster range of electric bikes at the event. Let’s take a brief look at the key specifications of these new products.

Third Generation Platform
Another major highlight of Ola is the new Gen-3 platform, which includes 4,680 cells with improved energy density and charging capabilities. Its main focus is on integrated components. By placing the battery pack and motor closer together, Ola has created a more compact and efficient powertrain. This innovative design maximizes the use of space inside the vehicle while reducing the overall weight of the vehicle. The platform also reduces wiring harnesses. Eliminating complex wiring systems allows manufacturers to improve reliability and performance, and simplify the manufacturing process.
