The Suzuki Jimny is entering the twilight years of its current generation as the brand prepares to launch a mid-life refresh. But before that happens, Suzuki Italia has given the rugged little off-roader a final hurray in the form of a limited edition model, limited to 150 individually numbered units for the Italian market.
Dubbed the Jimny Mata, this special edition is a follow-up to the one-off concept car shown at the 2024 Turin Motor Show, and it inherits some of the unique design virtues of the original. Unlike the standard Jimny, the Mata receives a series of subtle but impactful visual tweaks and rugged accessories designed to enhance its retro appeal.

The Mata’s exterior features a two-tone finish that pairs metallic Siberian Silver with matte black for the bonnet, pillars and roof. The front end features a retro Suzuki grille. Aluminum skid plates match the side skirts and contrast with the unpainted plastic finish of the bumper and fender extensions.
The profile features protective stripes on the doors and a set of fenders. The Jimny Mata comes with 15-inch alloy wheels and an additional set of winter tyres. There is a rigid cover at the back for the spare wheel. Finally, the off-roader benefits from additional aluminum underbody protection.
Inside, the cabin is kept relatively simple, with the only unique touch being the numbered plates on the dashboard that mark each unit. Based on the high-spec trim levels, the Jimny Mata comes equipped with a 7-inch infotainment system, Pioneer audio setup, rearview camera, heated seats and some basic ADAS features. The cargo area is lined with rubber mats, a practical addition that helps keep things tidy and easy to clean.
As with all EU-spec Jimny from 2021 onwards, the special edition is only available as a two-seat LCV due to emissions regulations. Under the hood is the factory naturally aspirated 1.5-liter engine, which produces 101 hp (75 kW / 102 PS) and 130 Nm (96 lb-ft) of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels exclusively through a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Jimny says “goodbye”
The name “Mata” means “again, beyond” in Japanese and is often used to express this is womanor “See you soon.” Suzuki Italia believes this is a fitting name for the final version of the current Jimny, admitting “this may be the last chance to buy one before it is discontinued indefinitely.” The company hopes the disruption is temporary and has criticized European regulations as “unfairly penalizing light vehicles”.
Going forward, the Jimny facelift is expected to feature an electric (also known as hybrid) powertrain, which will allow the model to return to the European market as a passenger car rather than a light commercial vehicle. Suzuki also confirmed that an all-electric Jimny is in the works, specifically for the European market. There are rumors that a pickup truck version of the Jimny may also be launched soon, thus expanding the Jimny’s product lineup to include not only the familiar three-door body, but also the newly launched five-door SUV body.
Italian buyers can order the Suzuki Jimny Mata from November 30, giving fans a last chance to buy before this unique off-roader is temporarily retired from the scene.
