Pick of the Day: 1957 Mercury Montclair
Pick of the Day: 1957 Mercury Montclair

Nineteen fifty-seven It's been a popular year for many American brands, but not so much for Mercury. That year, Mercury launched its "Dream Car Design" series, but enthusiasts and collectors tended to look elsewhere for the greatness of the Atomic Age. Our daily pick is one of the dark horse classics: the 1957 Mercury Montclair. It is listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a dealer in Greeley, Colorado. (Click the link to see the list) Mercury may also have been called "Sybil" because Ford Motor Company gave it several pictures that made the brand appear to have multiple personality disorder. Originally created to fill the gap between the Ford and Lincoln Zephyr, the Mercury eventually grew into a lower-class Lincoln, then got its own exclusive body, then evolved into a higher-class Ford after the Edsel fiasco, and so on. After spending several years in the 1950s in the shadow of its competitors, if not Ford, Mercury was poised to make…

Pick of the Day: 1957 Chrysler New Yorker Convertible

sometimes you have to I don’t know why the 1957 Chevrolet is so popular. Sure, it has strong styling, an engine that most people will like (or enough room for an engine you prefer), and it's ample enough that anyone can find one if they want one. However, as a kid, once I explored beyond the cliche cars of the 1950s, I caught wind of cars like our Daily Pick and fell in love with it. This 1957 Chrysler New Yorker Convertible is listed on ClassicCars.com for sale by a dealer in Volo, Illinois. (Click the link to see the list) It's a shame that a company known for producing cars with good engineering principles also produced cars with boring styling - that company was Chrysler from 1949-54. Of course, somewhere between the years, manufacturers got the hint and started adding colors and styles to their portfolio, but the styling was nothing compared to the cars produced by GM and…

1957 Chevrolet Corvette Restomod with LS3 engine

this Daily Selection It's a 1957 Chevrolet Corvette hot rod with an LS3 engine for sale on ClassicCars.com. There is one thing about vintage cars that can't be replicated: history. Now think about how much progress has been made since 1957. Nearly every part of a car has changed since then, from the type of paint…

Today’s Pick: 1957 DeSoto Firesweep Sportsman

Let's imagine The car brand is stuck in the middle of the hierarchy, while its pricier siblings consistently outsell you. Can that continue in a rapidly converging market? That's the story of DeSoto, and our pick today is the DeSoto model that provided the brand with a lifeline: a 1957 DeSoto Firesweep Sportsman. It's listed for sale on ClassicCars.com by a shop in Stratford, Connecticut. (Click on the link to see the listing) Where does the DeSoto fit in the collector car world? Plymouth, Dodge, and Chrysler are popular, but the DeSoto wasn't always equally loved. Introduced in 1929, the DeSoto was positioned above the Plymouth (also new for 1929) and below the Dodge, which was in turn positioned below the Chrysler. However, in 1933, the Chrysler Corporation changed the market positioning of both the Dodge and the DeSoto, with the latter now serving as a cheaper alternative to the Chrysler. This remained the case until 1961. Keep an eye…

1957 Cadillac Coupe de Ville has a story and a home in Jay
1957 Cadillac Coupe de Ville has a story and a home in Jay

Jay Leno has had enough Money and connections allowed him to buy any car he wanted. But when it came to this 1957 Cadillac Coupe de Ville, it seemed he had no choice. Decades earlier, a World War II veteran wanted to give it to Leno, and he wouldn't take "no" for an answer. He did wait three weeks for an official response, but in the end Leno accepted his generous, yet rudely insistent offer. Leno pulled the Cadillac into his massive garage with the intent of giving it a quick restoration. But things didn't go as planned. Instead, Leno and his team got into trouble, updating one thing, then replacing another... then another... and by the time they were done, the free Cadillac had new paint, a new interior, a rebuilt engine, a better cooling system, and a more modern transmission. When the overhaul began, the body was a drab beige. Rather than paint the Coupe de Ville in…
