Pick of the Day: 1961 Buick Skylark
Newer is not necessarily better. That's why the phrase "They don't do it like they used to" is a complaint, not a compliment. This statement applies to the design of Skylark in the 1990s, which was an unforgettable combination of lines and curves. It has none of the visual flair of our Daily Pick, a 1961 Buick Skylark for sale on ClassicCars.com from a dealer in Birmingham, Alabama. (Click the link to see the list) After a brief run in the 1950s, the Skylark name introduced a new compact model in 1961. Buick also singled out the Skylark's control-arm suspension for smoothing out bumps and vibrations in everyday driving. Sure, it talks about the exterior, noting that the steel roof is covered in anti-fouling vinyl…

The problem improved in 1958, but this reputation combined with the recession hurt production, especially that of Dodge, DeSoto, and Chrysler. Unibody construction (sans Imperial) for the 1960 model year helped solve quality issues, but the Exner's styling didn't develop the way the market wanted. Previously, Dodge dealerships often co-branded with Plymouth, but in 1960 this…
