Denver Union Station celebrates renovation

Denver Union Station completed major renovations this year and marked the 10th anniversary of this epic revitalization with a three-day community celebration from July 12-14. The renovation includes remodeling all 112 hotel guest rooms, redesigning the lobby and Cooper Lounge, and upgrading 8,000 square feet of meeting and event space.Public events during the celebration weekend include Neighborhood Nights, Community Days, and a grand black-tie gala featuring music by the Colorado Symphony Quartet and DJ Chris, entertainment by local painter Grow Love, and live ice sculptures. A panel of industry leaders focused on market trends in Denver's hospitality industry, including Matt Ojinaga, Visit Denver's director of convention sales. Christopher Cheney, senior vice president of strategy and business analytics at Stonebridge Cos., served as moderator. Listen to Audio In-person medical meetings still face long wait times and inflationary pressures The 2024 Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) meeting, held in Seattle in May with 11,631 attendees, was the culmination of a logistical struggle to return to the levels that brought together ophthalmologists from around the world in 2019. Challenges such as visa approvals, global economic conditions, and attendee delays required creative planning by the ARVO team. Last minute registration shuffle Lancy Cowan A recent Maritz study showed that 45% of attendees at 30 trade shows registered within four weeks of the event date. For the 2024 ARVO Future Vision Conference, half of attendees did not wait until the month before to register, but more than 600 were late registrants, said Lancey Cowan, chief conference and community engagement officer for ARVO, the only such event where ophthalmologists can present research. “They’re not signing up on-site like they used to,” she reports.
