Rolls-Royce commemorates its 007 history with 1-of-1 Phantom
In September, I wrote Regarding the importance of the Rolls-Royce Phantom III, one of them appeared in the 1964 James Bond film "Goldfinger" as the villain's chauffeur and creative gold-smuggling vehicle. At the end of this article, I speculated that the automaker would launch a limited-edition Phantom VIII, styled after the black and yellow 1937 sedan from the film, to further "carry on the legacy of this extraordinary car, and that of Rolls-Royce." Ties to the James Bond film series.” Deville. I was right. kind of. Pick of the Day: 1955 Panhard Dyna Z
car history Many ugly cars were produced. While styling and design are subjective, sometimes we have to look beyond the surface to discover engineering solutions that may be superior to the ones that failed us. Our Daily Pick is one of those vehicles: a 1955 Panhard Dyna Z. It is listed on ClassicCars.com for sale by a private seller in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. (Click the link to see the list.) There was a book I read as a kid called "Cars of the Fifties and Sixties" by Michael Sedgwick. What fascinates me the most is not the finned flyers I want to see, but the strange cars from Europe. Many of these cars have become mainstream in the American auction scene, such as the Amphicar and Messerschmitt, but the Panhard Dyna remains a curiosity. 1937 Panhard Dynamic Advertising The Panhard probably resonates most with American enthusiasts because of its Panhard rods, but the company built cars that spanned several different…

Pick of the Day: 2006 BMW M5
i have a lot of experience Along with the E60 BMW M5. The press conference for the new 2005 M5 in the United States was the first BMW media conference I attended. It was held near Lime Rock Park Raceway in Connecticut, and we had the opportunity to drive it on the track as well as on some amazing nearby roads. Powered by the new 500-horsepower S85 5.0-liter V10 engine, the M5 is a BMW model that journalists attending the event have never seen before. The engine is an absolute gem and the SMG transmission shifts faster than any manual gearbox without any lag and delivers some incredible performance figures. The M5 features BMW's new adaptive suspension, which can be adjusted to various modes from Comfort mode to a track-ready Sport+ setting. It's a masterpiece of technology and performance. The figures BMW gave us at the time were a 0-60 time of 4.7 seconds (very quick for that era) and…
1979 Volvo 262C Bertone Coupe
early 1990sI work in the film industry as a production coordinator and my daily driver is a Porsche 911 coupe. For that job, I needed a car that could carry more than two people and be decent, but not great enough also OK You see, one of my additional duties as production coordinator was to pick up cast and crew at various airports and bring them to hotels near where we were filming. As a car enthusiast, I wanted something unique and reliable, something stylish but affordable and well-made. It was a hard combination to find, but after weeks of searching, I finally found a Volvo 262C Bertone coupe. This proved to be an excellent choice as the 262C was comfortable, could accommodate cast or crew luggage, had a luxurious interior, and the styling always seemed to turn heads, especially for those who love cars. explain. I remember picking up Bill Paxton from the airport while filming Tombstone and our…

The car is being sold by a dealer in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and the auction will end on Tuesday. If you're looking for an exciting car ride in 2011, one of the vehicles on your potential purchase list may be the Ferrari California. This is a car unlike anything that has come before it: a completely new design from Pininfarina, with a front-mounted V8, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, a folding convertible hardtop and a multi-link rear suspension . However, the price is a hefty $192,000. Maybe a second hand version would be a better deal? Ferrari launched the California at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. Built in Maranello, Italy, it's positioned as a grand touring sports car (rather than a full-on performance car) in the Ferrari lineup. The name "California" itself was used to convey the image of a fun, top-down coastal cruise.…
Back in Action: Kyusha Club 2024 Fall Auto Show
Summer 2024 is coming That's in our rearview mirror, which means Arizona's car culture is waking up for the outdoor season. Recently, new developments have begun at the Kyusha Club, a club beloved by The Wall Street Journal in recent years for its variety of vehicles and laid-back atmosphere. The event is a gathering of European and Japanese cars held near historic Roosevelt Street in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. The centerpiece of the September 28 event was an old car shop, with several specially invited cars parked inside. A surface parking lot to the east accommodated a few dozen more vehicles, and everyone else found street parking within a block or two of the site. One of the joys of the Nine Clubs is standing on the street watching the constant parade of interesting cars. Here are some of my favorite vehicles on display, arranged by model year. 1970 BMW 2002 This car helped establish BMW's reputation as a sporty compact…
2015 Audi R8 V10+
this Daily Selection It's a 2015 Audi R8 V10 plus listed on ClassicCars.com by a New York dealer. Every now and then, a car comes along that's not only interesting but also a perfect fit for a "Pick of the Day," and I've driven one and can tell you firsthand. Today's 2015 Audi R8 V10 plus is one of those cars. In fact, it's the same R8 I tested a few years ago, with the same Ice Silver Metallic paint, Carbon Sigma "sideblades," and 19-inch wheels. In 2015, when I was working as a freelance automotive journalist near Austin, Texas, I was assigned to ride in a press car (so long ago that I forgot what it was) when my then-girlfriend was coming over from out of state. A day or so before she was expected to fly in, the press fleet manager emailed me to let me know that the car would no longer be used. I told him…
