China to launch first marine biofuel export quota in 2025
China plans to issue its first export quotas for marine bunker fuel blended with biodiesel, aiming to support domestic biofuel producers affected by EU anti-dumping duties. Industry sources and consultancy JLC reported that the government was considering a quota of 500,000 tons, which could be allocated to state oil companies PetroChina, Sinopec and CNOOC. The mixed fuel, called B24, is composed of 24% biodiesel and 76% low-sulfur fuel oil, which is different from the low-sulfur fuel oil conventionally exported from China. The quotas are expected to be rolled out in late 2024 or early 2025. The move addresses challenges faced by Chinese biodiesel refiners, whose exports fell sharply after the EU imposed steep tariffs in August. State-owned refineries could use carbon credit incentives to promote the adoption of low-carbon marine fuels for ships on routes between China and the EU. The program also supports the Chinese port of Zhoushan in promoting biofuel sales, in line with global trends in major…

Honda Cars India Ltd's sales outlook for October 2024 is good around the festive season. However, sales in the Asian subcontinent could have been better, but volumes are dwindling. Let's break down the numbers and take a closer look at how the company's sales will perform in October 2024. Now, HCIL offers only three vehicles: Amaze, City and Elevate. The next-generation Amaze is being tested and could give Honda a big boost in sales. HCIL's sales performance in October 2024 is lower than the sales performance in October 2023 and September 2024. Despite a huge increase in…

Friendly Benefits: Lifting Space Export Controls
You know who your friends are. You've known them for a long time, you understand each other, and more importantly, you trust each other. Well, countries also have friends. Perhaps national friends have similar foreign and national security policies rather than similar hobbies. Maybe country friends are aligned financially with their friends rather than you both getting what you think are horrible haircuts so It got cold then. It is important that these countries trust their friends as much as you do. Based on this trust, allies can build relationships that create economic opportunities. Last month, the US, UK and Australia were putting the final touches to their AUKUS agreement to reduce or remove barriers to the exchange of large amounts of defense items and technical data. In the October 2024 Space Rules, we now see Australia, Canada and the UK removing export license requirements for certain spacecraft. EU’s new export due diligence guidance: keep an eye on it
In 2021, the EU passed an updated version of the EU Dual-Use Regulation, setting common standards for export control of dual-use items by EU member states. Among its new provisions, Regulation (EU) 2021/821 introduces “comprehensive controls” on network monitoring projects in its Article 5. This catch-all provision requires exporters to obtain approval if they know or suspect that their cyber surveillance programs may be used to commit human rights violations, even if the programs are not specifically subject to existing export controls. Telecom interception systems (5A001.f.), Internet surveillance systems (5A001.j.), intrusion software (4A005, 4D004), and forensic tools (5A004.b., 5D002.a.3.b., 5D002.b.) etc. items. c.3.b.) are examples of technologies subject to these controls. Despite growing concerns about the misuse of spyware and other surveillance tools, such comprehensive controls have so far been rarely applied, and many exporters remain unclear about how to apply it. To address this issue, the EU published new guidance on October 15, 2024 to help exporters meet these…
spatial rules, or. . . Space rules! : Reduce export controls
We can imagine a space company starting out with just a few screws and some sheet metal in a garage. (1) But whatever its origins, soon after its early stages the company will likely have global reach. Commercial aerospace companies inherently involve elements such as international supply chains, foreign customers, and design and engineering talent from around the world. As a result, outdated U.S. export controls—regulations that restrict commercial space and satellite goods, technology, and software as if they were military assets—could burden space companies of all sizes, especially leaving small businesses unable to Gain competitiveness. 1. October 2024 Space Rules In response to this concern, on October 17, 2024, the U.S. agency that regulates exports from the space industry (2) issued inspection copies of four new regulatory notices (the October 2024 Space Rules), each of which should reduce compliance Regulatory burden and potential disruption Space and satellite companies have faced these issues in the past. All regulations appear to…

Banks export too: New BIS guidance tags financial firms
Pull offer: “Every export – every item – has an associated financial transaction” You are a banker. You do banking. You read the ledgers, compile the numbers, and manage the accounts. Maybe you take out a loan, maybe you invest, but in general, you move your money to where it should be (and from where it shouldn't be). (1) Something you do no All you have to do is pack up a box of widgets and ship them to a customer in another country. However, the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has warned that bankers should maintain "ongoing" export due diligence. This news may liven up your daily life. Export compliance traps
Christine Kelleher Complying with export regulations can be difficult! Understanding where to find these regulations, how to interpret them, and apply them to business in an ever-changing environment can be challenging, to say the least; not to mention that regulations are not set in stone. This means that what was fine last week may not be so good this week, placing the burden on the industry to always understand a company's international trade footprint and stay current and vigilant about export regulations. Let’s look at some scenarios that could land a company in trouble: Ignore red flags No one wants to be the one to stop shipping when you know your company's revenue is at stake. But it’s also important to remember that complying with the law is not optional, and avoiding export violations by recognizing red flags is key to complying with the law to avoid fines and penalties. The U.S. government wants industry to address red flags rather…

Comply with Canadian export and import regulations
By Shawna Karajic, Export Solutions Inc. Spoiler alert – similar but different As a U.S. importer or exporter, we must comply with specific regulations. For defense articles, we are regulated by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR); for dual-use and commercial items, we are subject to the Export Administration Regulations (EAR); and for imports into the United States, we are regulated by the Customs Regulations and the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS). Importers and exporters in Canada are also subject to complex regulations. In fact, from the perspective of a humble US trade compliance professional, I would argue that Canada’s import and export regulations are just as complex as those in the US, and exporters and importers must also work within a matrix of government agencies. Incidentally, Canada loves their acronyms just as much as the US does, but perhaps not as much as they love hockey pucks! Importing into Canada: When entering Canada, Canadian companies…

Export Incoterms and VAT
Customer Question: I am about to export copy paper from Durban to Kenya for the first time using a local shipping company, using the CIF incoterm. To understand the impact of export VAT, let's explain the difference between direct and indirect exports. Export Control Audits: What You Need to Know
The purpose of an export control audit is to ensure that your organization is properly managing all compliance issues related to export activities. Auditing is critical to an export control program as it helps identify gaps in compliance and assess the effectiveness of a company’s export control measures. Auditing should not be viewed as a separate activity but rather as a standard business practice and an integral part of a comprehensive export control program. This is an important process; depending on the size and business of your company, compliance issues can be widespread, involving many people who have never heard of the EAR or ITAR, and who are unaware that their work involves exports. For example, a programmer at a computer services company might have good reasons to share code snippets with programmers at a foreign subsidiary, but this could inadvertently be exporting controlled information. A sales representative might be doing the same thing if he provides a quote to…

These sanctions include not only sanctions on Venezuelan individuals and entities, but also industry and financial restrictions. Venezuela and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations Venezuela is included on the 126.1 Prohibited List under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, which prohibits imports, exports, and sales from certain countries.
