you may be familiar with As the saying goes, "familiar food comes with ease". For those who shy away from red Chevelles and purple Challengers, they'll understand, even when equipped with an LS6 or Hemi respectively. Their abomination comes in the form of the Malaise Era Invitational 2024 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals (MCACN), which puts Camaros, Firebirds, and Trans Ams in the spotlight from the moment decals increase horsepower. Muscle flexing in the malaise era of 2022 This gathering of F-bodies has its origins in the 2022 Malaise Era muscle show, which was one of the year's great surprises - who knew a lower-horsepower performer would be so popular? Sure, MCACN has some of the rarest and most unusual muscle cars ever built, but when was the last time you saw an original 1977 Camaro Z/28? Trust me: When you look at the cars below, it's hard not to be impressed by how some manufacturers have kept up with…

1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6
1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6

there are many There are a lot of one-off items on the market, but everyone has at least one thing that I call a legacy: something that you keep for years or decades and use regularly, and that shows in its patina. I consider my worn Brooks Brothers football leather briefcase to be a legacy. Our Pick of the Day is a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6, the legacy of one owner for nearly half a century. Whoever owned it before the selling dealer got it must have configured it well. You'll see a lot of second-gen Trans Ams in black, which is cool if you're a big Smokey and the Bandit fan, but it's not the only color available. This T/A comes in the unexpected and attractive Nocturne Blue color, which matches the gold Firebird hood decal and 15-inch gold Snowflake wheels. Instead of plain black vinyl, the original owner of this Trans Am had camel tack cloth…

AutoHunter Spotlight: 1968 Pontiac Firebird

for the first time i realized I saw the Pontiac Firebird while watching the TV show "Booker" in the 1980s. I don't know why it took me until 1989 to mentally register this model. Maybe it's because Pontiac (aside from the black Trans Am in Smokey and the Bandit) isn't a brand that piques my interest. To me, Booker's Blue Firebird takes everything that was great about the first-generation Chevrolet Camaro and improves it on styling. Since then, the first-generation Firebird has been my favorite production pony car, second only to the 1965-1967 Shelby Mustangs, cars that really can't be considered "production" cars. This 1968 Pontiac Firebird appears on AutoHunter, an online auction platform powered by ClassicCars.com. The Firebird you see here is powered by a 350 V8 engine and a two-speed automatic transmission. The car comes from the seller complete with cover, battery can, original removed speedometer, spare parts and New York license plates. The exterior of this Firebird…

Introduction to Pontiac The new Firebirds arrived late, arriving in February 1970, giving Chrysler a six-month head start on the new E-body. Still, Pontiac made some changes for the 1971 model year that made the short-lived 1970s models unique. That's not to say that the 1971 model wasn't unique to Pontiac. It's worth noting that Pontiac lowered the engine's compression ratio the year before the federal mandate to use unleaded fuel. Pontiac also toned down its Formula Firebird model to attract customers in the still-embattled sports car segment. In 1970, the Formula was purely a performance car with the 400 engine as standard, but by 1971, the standard engine was the 350 two-cylinder to broaden the Formula's appeal. So the Formula 350 was a poser, but Pontiac wasn't the only company selling a car with a high-performance image but a low-performance engine. Mike Polito is the owner of this Canyon Copper 1971 Formula 350. Mike owns a Buick Riviera that…

Pick of the Day: 2001 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
Pick of the Day: 2001 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

last year, I wrote a story about two of Pontiac's most popular performance cars, the Firebird Trans Am and the G8. Both cars were designed to excite buyers, and even though the Pontiac division folded after 2010, the brand's enthusiasts remain enthusiastic about it. Today's Pick is a 2001 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6 for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Culpemont, Pennsylvania. (Click the link to see the list) "Car is all stock and in perfect condition," the listing begins. "Manual transmission, new PA condition inspection, brand new battery, runs and drives fine." Even standing still, this bright red Firebird Trans Am evokes a sense of speed. Like other Pontiacs of the era, it had plenty of aerodynamic flair, including the "Ram Air" induction system identified by the script logo on the hood. The rear is completed by sculpted wings, full-width smoked taillights, dual exhaust systems and WS6 badging. By the way, the WS6 package brings a…
