Ringbrothers’ 1970 Plymouth ‘Cuda Infected
When people think of a muscle car People often think of the original Plymouth 'Cuda from the 1970s. The combination of clean lines and powerful Hemi V-8 engine is unmatched and makes this car the perfect blank canvas for tuners today. Wisconsin-based Ringbrothers, one of the best tuners in the business, recently showed off a 'Cuda that's sure to be polarizing at the 2024 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Ringbrothers "Infected" 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda – Photo via Centerscene Dubbed "Infected" by Ringbrothers, this 1970 model was finished in bright bubblegum pink. Ringbrothers calls the color "Pinkeye," a not-so-subtle nod to the Hellcat Redeye's supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine that powers the car. The engine has 807 horsepower and sends all of its thrust to the rear wheels via a rear-mounted 6-speed manual transmission for better weight distribution. Ringbrothers spent more than 5,600 hours on the build, with much of that time focused on modifying the body. These include lengthening the wheelbase…

Ford Mustang GT History
The GT badge has many meanings Throughout the life of the Ford Mustang. Introduced in 1965 for $165, it became a hit in the 1970s after starring as Steve McQueen's hero car in the 1968 film "Bullitt," before being introduced in the 1980s 5.0 Performance is back, much to Vanilla Ice's delight. While performance is a hallmark of the GT-390, 0-60 mph times haven't dropped significantly in decades. That all changed in 2011, when Ford introduced a new 5.0-liter V-8 engine with dual overhead camshafts. Today, that engine and modern suspension make the Mustang an American icon, good enough to conquer the world. Porsche 911 GT3 turns 25
Porsche 911 GT3 turns 25we highlight the four generations of products launched so far. Born from racing but built for the street, the 911 GT3 represents the evolution of a lineage that began in 1973 with the original 911 Carrera RS homologation special edition. Like the Carrera RS, the GT3 and its more hardcore GT3 RS sibling are the cars most closely related to Porsche's 911 race car. That's why they still run naturally aspirated engines and can be ordered without many of the niceties found in other 911 variants. The GT3 continues the company's tradition of building "pure, uncompromising sports cars," as Porsche puts it. The basic recipe is rear-wheel drive, lightweight construction, high-downforce aerodynamics and a track-focused chassis. Porsche has stuck to this with every generation and hopefully will continue to do so in the future. 996 Porsche 911 GT3 The first GT3 was based on the 996-generation 911 and debuted at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show. It…
The greatest frigate of all time
Since 1953, the Chevrolet Corvette Earned the title of America's sports car. But now, eight generations in, it's more than just a sports car. With its mid-engine design and various wild powertrains, the Corvette is now an American exotic that performs like a supercar but costs a lot less. Full of scoops, vents, and wings, it's overly bold in an American way, but it also has the merch to back up its looks. The Corvette wasn't that confident at first. It's a six-cylinder convertible that favors style over performance. It set the design benchmark for the second-generation model while also adding performance variants that are now highly regarded but had little power during the doldrums of the 1970s. The C4 Corvette marks a return to performance, albeit perhaps without the best build quality. The C5, C6 and C7 Corvettes all evolved a common design into the best-performing front-engine cars GM has ever built. But that wasn't enough, prompting the C8…

Learn how Porsche entered the turbine age
Porsche is one of the earliest car manufacturers Turbocharged—and the push is coming faster. General Motors introduced a turbocharged road car in the early 1960s, but Porsche didn't follow suit until the early 1970s. As the carmaker stated, after major changes in the rules of the World Automobile Championship (which at the time included the 24 Hours of Le Mans), the goal was not to sell road cars but to build competitive racing cars. Porsche won its first overall victory at Le Mans in 1970 with the 917, and won again in 1971, winning the World Automobile Championship two years in a row. But in 1972, the governing body limited engine displacement to 3.0 liters. Rather than try to adapt to the stricter European rules, Porsche decided to switch to the less regulated Canada-U.S. Challenge Cup, better known as Can-Am. Porsche 917/30 Spyder Can-Am’s laissez-faire environment presents different challenges. The most competitive teams use large 8.0-liter V-8 engines, so Porsche…
Bentley’s first T-Series has been restored after decades of hiding
Bentley Completed An eight-year restoration of its first T-Series, a car that had been hidden away for decades. The T-Series was introduced in 1965 as a sister model to the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. At the time, Rolls-Royce owned Bentley, and the T-Series and Silver Shadow looked almost identical, save for the brand's distinctive grille and bonnet ornament. Both models represented their respective brands' shift toward unibody construction, and in the case of the T Series, it helped keep Bentley alive during its 15 years of production. The first T-Series, chassis number SBH1001, was originally a press car and was parked in storage decades ago. When Bentley found it, the car was no longer drivable and its entire interior was missing. 1965 Bentley T series bearing chassis number SBH1001 Restoration work began in late 2016, when a group of Bentley apprentices began removing the trim and restoring the body. Work was paused for a while, but resumed a few years ago…
Thornley Kelham breathes new life into old Jaguar XK120
Ideas for transformation The Jaguar XK120 may look a bit out of place, but Thornley Kelham has managed to create a car that pays homage to the original while breathing new life into it. Thornley Kelham is a British company that specializes in restoration work, usually on classic European cars. The company has also dabbled in the conversion of cars like the Porsche 356, Porsche 911 and Lancia Aurelia, and now we can add the Jaguar XK120 to the list. Thornley Kelham previewed its XK120 conversion, the XK European, for the first time in 2022. The first example has now been completed, and according to Piston Heads, it took around 2,000 hours to complete. Customers can provide their own XK120, or Thornley Kelham can source one. The company prefers to source cars that are considered "rust-ridden" because almost all parts of the car will eventually be replaced during the conversion process. Fangio was one of the first stars of Formula One, competing in the first season in 1950. He won five titles, a record that stood for 46 years until Michael Schumacher broke it. Today, only Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton have won more, with seven each. 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 (Photo courtesy of RM Sotheby's) Although Fangio won titles with drivers from no fewer than four teams, much of his success can be attributed to the W196. General Motors has been sued The state of Texas has filed criminal charges against a driver, accusing him of selling detailed driving records to insurance companies for profit, The New York Times reported on Tuesday, August 13. The lawsuit alleges that GM used its OnStar telematics system to collect data on 16 million drivers and sold it to auto insurers, causing those customers' insurance premiums to skyrocket or their coverage to be reduced. The data includes individual users’ driving behavior, start and end times of specific trips, and instances of speeding above 80 mph and emergency braking. Late-night driving, seatbelt use, and “sharp turns” are collected and sold to external vendors, who then compile a “driving score.”“ Sold to insurance companies. Singer Turbo Study 911 gets slanted nose design
California singer revealed Based on a slanted-nose version of the 964-generation Porsche 911 Turbo Study, it applies its typical attention to detail to this iconic design. Debuting in coupe form in 2022, the Turbo Study follows Singer's template of taking a 964-generation 911 chassis and tracing its exterior. In this case, the design was inspired by the earlier Porsche 930, the original 911 Turbo built from 1975 to 1989. Singer offers the Turbo Study in Targa and convertible versions in addition to the coupe, and now has added the option of a slant-nose coupe. Also known as the "Flachbau" or "Flatnose," the slant-nose design replaces the fixed headlights with pop-up headlights, creating a low-profile front end inspired by the Porsche 935 race car. It was originally offered as a special order option for the 930 and is now very rare. Like the other Turbo Study models, the snub-nosed cars started out as customer-supplied 964 chassis. They were fully restored and…
Aston Martin is looking for its first car
Aston Martin Heritage Trusta charity established to help preserve Aston Martin's history and manage its museum, is searching for the first car produced by the automaker. Aston Martin was founded in 1913 by entrepreneurs and avid racing fans Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin as Bamford & Martin. The two had already worked together to sell cars produced by the British brand Singer, but in 1913 they set up their own company and began designing high-end sports cars to challenge the cars of the time from brands such as Bugatti. Production of the first car (the official prototype) began in 1914, but due to the outbreak of World War I, production was delayed until 1915. Despite many challenges, including Bamford's service in the war, the car was completed and finally registered on March 16, 1915. Ferrari recently offered The company updated the current availability of some models in a statement released alongside its financial results for the first half of the year. The company has revealed that the Roma coupe and limited-edition 812 Competizione are reaching the end of their respective life cycles, while both the SF90 Stradale and 812 GTS have been discontinued. The Roma debuted in late 2019, and given the typical five-year shelf life of the modern Ferrari model range, the handsome coupe’s imminent end of production appears to be on track. Ferrari hasn’t mentioned plans for a successor, though that’s likely to come a little later, as the convertible Roma Spider isn’t due until 2023. Formula 1 cars get wider, longer and heavier
Making the car bigger and heavier This may seem counterproductive, but this is exactly what has happened in Formula One over the past two decades. Red Bull Racing recently brought out its first Formula 1 car - the 2005 RB1 - to be pitted against the current RB20 at a very wet Silverstone circuit. David Coulthard raced the RB1 in Red Bull's first season, while reigning F1 champion Max Verstappen (who was just eight when the RB1 debuted) got to reacquaint himself with the car when he raced it in the RB20. F1 has gone through several rule changes since Red Bull joined the sport in the early 2000s by purchasing the struggling Jaguar team from Ford. That much is immediately apparent when seeing the RB1 and RB20 side by side. The 2024 car is more than 3.2 feet longer, about a foot wider, and weighs about 440 pounds more than the 2005 car. The extra weight is partly due…

Hyundai Motor AverageMuch quieter than cars from previous decades. That's thanks to a specially modified Porsche 928. According to the car manufacturer, this 928 has been used as a noise test vehicle for more than 30 years. It has now been retired and is on display at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, where visitors can admire its unusual array of appendages. The car was originally designed to help Porsche comply with noise regulations. To do this, engineers needed to measure the noise from different parts of the car. Although Porsche was producing other models at the time, the 928 was identified as the perfect platform. Porsche 928 noise test car The tests "required a lot of power in the lower engine speed range," Harald Mann, one of the testers, said in a statement, adding that those requirements ruled out the 924, Porsche's entry-level sports car at the time. Noise also had to be tightly controlled, with the 944 and…

GM is developing an adaptive air intake system
General Motors is developing Adaptive intake ducts can expand and contract based on airflow, which the automaker claims will increase parts commonality between vehicles. The adaptive air intake system was the subject of a patent application filed by GM in 2022, but it did not surface until June 27, 2024, when it was published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). General Motors adaptive air intake patent diagram GM's application discusses an intake assembly consisting of fixed inlet and outlet sections and a movable element in the middle. The middle section would be "made of a flexible material whose cross-sectional area would expand and contract based on the incoming air flow," GM said in the application.
