JadeWeserPort Wilhelmshaven, Germany’s only deepwater container port, is making waves in North America, attracting significant attention from U.S. shippers and logistics partners. The strategic roadshow includes participation at the Americas Breakbulk Trade Show in Houston, a customer event in Philadelphia and a port tour in New York, underscoring the port’s growing profile as a key hub for transatlantic trade.

The roadshow is organized in partnership with EUROGATE and Hapag-Lloyd and highlights JadeWeserPort’s competitive advantages. Marc-Oliver Hauswald, Managing Director of JadeWeserPort Marketing, highlighted the success of Hapag-Lloyd’s Atlantic Loop 4 service, launched in January 2024. The service establishes direct connections between Wilhelmshaven and major North American ports, including Houston, Veracruz and Altamira, streamlining trade between Europe, the United States and Mexico.
“JadeWeserPort’s ability to operate around the clock and regardless of tides makes it stand out among European ports,” noted André Heim, Head of Sales at JadeWeserPort Wilhelmshaven. With a water depth of 18 meters, the port is uniquely positioned to handle large container ships efficiently, providing advantages to shippers and logistics operators.
Strengthening ties with North America
The delegation used their trip to Houston to contact the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation to discuss strengthening cooperation with Canadian ports. These efforts are consistent with JadeWeserPort’s goal to expand its North American supply chain presence.
With seamless rail and truck connections complementing its ocean freight services, Wilhelmshaven offers a compelling solution for U.S. and Canadian shippers looking for efficient logistics routes into Europe. For cargo destined for European markets, the port’s advanced infrastructure ensures fast loading and unloading, while its cargo village provides 150 hectares of storage and distribution capacity.
Gateway to European consumers
JadeWeserPort is ideally located on Germany’s North Sea coast, connecting shippers with more than 250 million European consumers. The port plays a vital role in handling Germany’s booming trade with its largest trading partner, the United States. Major imports from the United States include pharmaceuticals, data processing equipment and machinery, while German exports include auto parts, chemical products and electrical equipment.
Recent infrastructure expansion in Wilhelmshaven includes a new 30,000 m² multi-user logistics hall, with plans to add an additional 110,000 m² of warehouse space in the near future. This growth ensures that there is ample capacity for companies looking for efficient distribution centers.
A bright future for transatlantic trade
JadeWeserPort’s growing connections and continued investments are reshaping its role in the global logistics landscape. By nurturing relationships with its North American partners and enhancing its services, Wilhelmshaven strengthens its position as a major gateway for international trade, offering shippers unparalleled efficiency and access to the European market.
With a focus on innovation and collaboration, JadeWeserPort is prepared to meet the changing demands of the global supply chain, ensuring seamless operations for shippers on both sides of the Atlantic.
